Hot Air Balloon crash-cont'd

Here is a pic from the Albuqurque Journal that the video doesn't show. It seems when it hit the tent the basket tipped and ejected the guy from about 20 feet up. The story states he received a dislocated hip and a head contusion.

Looks just as dangerous as motorcycles--no seat belts.

Really neat! They are just so beautiful to watch.;) I have been in one a couple of times. Did not go far though and the first one was tied to the ground and it only went about 500 ft. up. But what a rush! I would do it again, I love that stuff!!
Poor guy that fell out, I may re-think it now! :chuckle

I wasn't out there but Jim was. They even played it in slow motion on the local news and the only injury was a broken or dislocated hip. There were about 3 or so other ones but no pictures and two of them were on the Santa Ana Pueblo with injuries but none of them were life threatening and I just heard that there was another one on the Pueblo and that one smashed into the vehicle of a Santa Ana Police car with the officer in the vehicle and he had to go get checked out at the hospital.

They do short stories on the evening news here as well from Albuquerque.

I love the newscasts they do from on-site when they show them sailing through the air -- looks like hundreds up there .... so graceful.

I agree, Kris, I would think this is a hobby that has adrenaline junkies for participants :D - much like the drivers of our XLR's. ;)

Your pictures are pretty interesting Jean - actually fascinating to me.

Yes but most of the time I'm just a wine junkie!:laugh::laugh:

Hey Jean & Jim,

Just caught this on Comcast.net from your area--were you guys out there when this happened. Pretty scary!!

I was there at the field and saw this happen. Fortunately no life threatening injuires. At the same time there was a similar accident at Santa Ana Pueblo when a balloon came in hard and the pilot and passenger were ejected. The empty balloon then went on and crashed in the parking lot of the Santa Ana Star Casino. I am dealing with the FAA on that investigation now. Also fortunately no life threatening injuries, only some damage to a fence and light pole. No accidents reported today, but one person was not paying attention while driving this morning and rear ended my partner's squad car. :chuckle

I now have to make a change to my last post, :pat: it was not a balloon that hit the officer's car, it was another car.

Yeah, that'd be pretty hard to explain to your insurance company ....
And no excuse to get out of the ticket either ....
Boy .... that guy's a loser all the way around! Talk about a bad day!

Photo Girl found out yesterday that she has a stress fracture on the top of her left foot. It looks like she will be wearing a post-op shoe this weekend on our trip. She may be slow getting around.

So sorry to hear about Photo Girl hope you will be okay and have a lot of fun. Have the tech get you a supped up golf cart when everyone is walking then you will be able to get pictures from all angles.

Fred;)

What? How did that happen? That is okay I'll be slow with you Photo Girl. I have one of those boots you want me to bring it so your not alone? :dunno:

I cannot imagine that will make much of a difference to Kathy .... her motto is that there is plenty of time to rest when you die. She has been through a lot more pain than this .... she's quite the trooper.

Now to you Kathy .... you take care of that foot and don't push yourself to do things that you know you shouldn't..... Bruce, make sure she takes the weight off of it frequently - You guys have to take care of her for me since I am not there to fuss over her.

Stress Fracture

This will DEFINITELY hinder my picture taking! The top of my foot started hurting when we were at Road Atlanta...I thought it was a flare up of arthritis, but it didn't get any better with higher doses of drugs. So I went to the doctor on Monday & then had an x-ray. It's VERY painful. I may be sitting more than walking this weekend, but I'll have a good time anyway! I'm looking forward to meeting all of the new people.

That would be great if you would bring your boot, too!

Well I have a partner then! Sorry to hear that Photo Girl! Bruce needs to quit chasing you around! :D
