The New WC - AKA Wives Club

Haha --- you do realize that cop-humor isn't easily appreciated?

We used to plan our Christmas' around the 3-month shift-change and wonder how much of the 48 hrs of Christmas Ray would get to spend at home - to this day the girls can remember the mornings they woke up to a Santa visited home but with no Daddy to share it with. Instead, unfortunately, he was doing exactly as you stated .... so sad .... so sad.

'We' are all so 'normal' that most of us don't even know that is truly what happens in hundreds of homes every holiday .... pretty gut-wrenching to have to take a kid to a half-way house on Christmas Eve. Not easily forgetable...:(

You are so correct, having been an advocate and President of the Board of Directors of "The Alliance Against Domestic Abuse" we always saw the incident rate go up during the holidays. It was sad to see the little children taken to shelters or foster homes with no presents and no mommy or daddy. We would always try to get them presents and always kept teddy bears and dolls on hand to give to the little ones. In so many cases both the husband and wife were locked up.

Spent some quality time with Jetboy again today and saw more of the greater Phoenix area. Just got back from dinner, time to pack the bags and load the car so I can get an early start for home in the morning. Hope by the time I get home the realtor will phone with a closing date.

Enjoyed spending some time with you this weekend. Let's hope that the deal closes soon so you can get back down and start your next project!

I always had a trunk load of Teddy bears, dolls and hand-made quilts supplied by the many advocate groups, thanks to people like you.

I realize my sense of humor is over the heads of most folks, but that's okay. It is a by-product of the profession. :dunno: dragging parents off to jail in front of their children, many who watched their parents hitting, stabbing, even shooting each other on Christmas Eve will do that to you.

Until Colorado Legislature woke up, the Alliance volunteers were first on the scene for domestic abuse calls, finally we got some new laws signed in to affect and that changed, we were accompanied by the police, made it much safer for us. I also supplied safe housing for victims at my motel and that is another story. A state patrolman stopped in one night trying to find his wife who was a victim, I kept a very straight face, looked him in the eye and told him there was no one registered under that name. He left and did not come back. We never used names when we sheltered so if he had tried to see my registration cards it wouldn't have done him any good. He was in uniform and acted as if he was on official business.

NEXT project???

BTW - you couldn't have had a better host ..

Next project is just to buy a sofa for the family room and a bed to sleep on until I decide to bring down everything from Colorado and stay here 12 months of the year. NO MORE BIG PROJECTS. The house is only eleven years old and in excellent shape, 3 car garage and 2400 sq ft of living space. All appliance stay and the house is clean. A little pruning of bushes and trees is all that really needs to be done. Oh yes, the spa needs a good cleaning and filled with new water and probably a new cover. The master suite, living & dining room has new carpet and the rest of the house is tiled floors. I can just relax and enjoy life finally. That will sure be a change.

I agree pruning on the landscaping is all that is needed on that house. There is a place up by me that can get you a new spa cover for much less than the pool supply places charge. I would go ahead and do that before next summer. You have so much shade in the back yard the next spa cover should last another 10 years easy.

Thanks for the good info on the spa cover. I left Mesa at 6:00 A.M. yesterday and arrived home at 6:30 P.M. last night. Total milage home was 786. Came thru several areas of blinding snow conditions and lots of wind all the way. I had enough winter yesterday to last me for the entire season. My driveway has not been shoveled and our streets were not cleaned, not surprised as the company we hire doesn't always come out. The DTS looks like a dirty pig on the outside so will have it washed and then pick up Digby at the doggy spa. I know he will be glad to get home.

You are going to LOVE those AZ winters .... warm days, cold, crisp frosty nights ..... PERFECT. Next thing you might want to do is check out a summer home here and join the rest of the "Zonies" that come here to escape the summer heat ..... then you truly will have the perfect life .... !
Guess next time we come to AZ we will have another buddy to have dinner with ....!

You must have been in a hurry to see Digby if you turned it into a one day trip. Glad you made it home safe. Hope the new place gets through ascrow soon!

I just wanted to get home and out of the storms, especially going over Raton Pass. Digby is so happy to be home and the car is all nice and clean again thanks to the great people at Red Noland Cadillac.

Going out to dinner sounds like fun and if you need a place to stay you know the latch key will always be out. Have already found some great places for breakfast and dinner.

Last time we were in the Phoenix area, we ate at Charleston's in Mesa, right off the freeway. I've never raved so much about glazed carrots as when I ate there... and if the glazed carrots were that good, you can ONLY imagine how the rest of the meal was. Charleston's is a NOT MISS whenever we're in Phoenix!!

MMMMMMmmmmm, yummmmm.... glazed carrots ....

Robert ...maybe you and me can go out to breakfast while JetBoy and the Detail Guy visit the Waffle House .... well, to be perfectly honest .... I like it too ;)

You're absolutely right about Charleston's! Another fun restaurant was Pinnacle Pete's. Went there in uniform my first time with a gaggle of other officers, half in ties, half not. The waitresses ganged up on us and cut off the ties once we sat down. Luckily, I was forewarned about that part.

Wait for it....

I ordered my steak well done as I always do in an unknown steakhouse.:dunno:

Wait for it....

With a straight face and as serious as a heart attack the waitresses brought out our meals, saving my plate for the last and set down a warm plate with a combat boot on it and walked away.:pat:

The Maitre'D came over and explained to me, that's what a well done steak looks like when cooked over mesquite and asked if I'd like to change my order. Everyone at the place was rolling in the aisles, the guys that lost their ties felt vindicated, and 10 minutes later I had a medium rare steak that was delicious.:worship::worship:

I've also eaten and Pinnacle Pete's... an absolute BLAST!!!

I just finished choking down a fat Rib-Eye and now you've gone and made me hungry again!

RA, you better start warming up for our April cruise, I picked up a second roll-on wine bag for you and Ray, nothing like a wine smuggling conspiracy to bond friends together.
