FIRE

A very bad fire in Parkdale Canyon. Buckskin Joe's at the Royal Gorge was evacuated. One lane traffic on hiway 50. I am going to Salida today so I will go on hiway 24 instead of my normal route up the Big Horn Sheep Canyon. Tv just announced homes have been lost in this fire. Sure glad this didn't happen while some of you folks were here.

Fire in the Flagstaff area too - it's always so awful those inland fires - no breezes at night to blow the smoke away and so it just stays confined, and the soot and ashes cover the area like snow .... makes it hard to breathe too. Fire is vicious and relentless - Boy, doesn't it seem like someone really p*ssed of Mother Nature this year???

I am so glad that I haven't heard about anything worse on this forum than some of you without electricity for awhile ... we are a lucky bunch.

If I'm not mistaken, the fire in Flagstaff was started by a camper dumping his hot ashes.:pat:

We had another round of bad storms roll through last night into this morning. This storm really dumped some rain. There's a lot of flooding.

That does not surprise me .... I'd say 95% of our bad fires are caused by negligence or arson. That makes me just sick to think that someone would actually set a fire on purpose ... that's like manslaughter.... to humans, the animals, and it rapes the land. Lightning is beyond our control - but the other factors are not ....

These storms that are going through your area ... typical or not typical? It is early summer - I think I remember that weather pattern was similar when we drove back to Kentucky those couple of years .... Only one year I think it was TX and OK that got clobbered. Just wait ... soon it will be July and we will all be complaining about the heat :pat: BTW - does anyone have Cox Cable? If you do, did you notice that we got a bunch of new screen savers for our TV? I love the "fireworks" one with the John Philip Souza marches being played .... I told Ray that we don't have to go out for fireworks this year - we'll just turn off the lights and turn on the TV .... Nahhhh, I'm just kidding.

The fire at the Nat'l Sand Dunes has now consumed 4700 acres, humidty is single digit, winds 20 + MPH, the fire at the Royal Gorge area is not under control yet, traffic on hiway 50 was closed but now open one lane only. This fire is only 15% contained. Smoke is coming into Colorado Springs. Just hope and pray the winds calm down so they can get it under control, both of them. Lots of homes in the Royal Gorge are without electricity. I left home at 7:55 A.M. and arrived home at 4:30 P.M., drove Big Bertha today.

It's raining again. Temps suppose to make it to a 100 today.
:D

It's a beautiful area - I hate the thought of people losing their homes as well as seeing the gorge scarred by fires.

Tonight is a night to stay in and seek shelter. We had some pretty bad storms Sunday night and it looks like we are in for it again tonight. Doesn't bother me but poor Digby really got upset Sunday night. I had to put him on my bed to get him to calm down. I never put him on my bed so you know he had to be really upset for me to do that.

Well, here's the read sad thing .... Ray would love to be cutting your grass! For the past 44 years everytime we go to Sears we go through the tool section and he just about drools all over those riding lawn mowers. His mower is a 13 in ELECTRIC and it takes all of about 10 minutes to mow AND edge. Don't ever down-size if you like to work outside - or garden .... our tomato garden is always just 2 plants .... and this year he found a hanging tomato planter so that next year we can have 3!

On the upside, the weather is predictably perfect. LinSue calls it boring - Soon though we should be getting some really hot days coming and then I will start complaining. ;)

Ray needs to come out and stay with us for a while. We have plenty of cars for him to rub on and grass to mow. He can ride around on the mower as much as he wants.

Very hot and humid here. I hope all of you on the East Coast stay cool with your record heat.

When does the next plane board??? ;) He would be in heaven .... no, really.

I was in Anderson SC today at a project site. On my back home to NC on I-85 North, I was passing through Spartanburg SC. I know that it is hotter out on the interstate, but the temperature as indicated in the rear view mirror of my Tahoe was 103F. It dropped to 102F when I got further north to Gaffney SC, and continued to drop to 99F just about 10 miles into NC!

I love Crimson Pearl, but I was glad she was sitting home in her air-conditioned garage bay!

I'm not so concerned about me, it's her I don't want out in the heat! :chuckle

She'll not only survive .... she will thrive ... just ask Jetboy .... Phoenix :D

Now THIS is living ...

7 Day forecast: 85 - Sunny, 85 - Sunny, 85 - Sunny, 85 - Sunny, ect....

But won't see any XLR's while here in Hawaii for a week.
