My XLR/V(s)
2005 XLR Silver
My GPS quit on me and says, "NO MAP DISC" !
I've cycled it through and removed the disk and re-inserted it several times but it shows the same NO MAP DISC.

Am I destined to go to the Dealer or wha..............!

My 04 is doing the same thing. Figure it out and you will be my hero. I'm thinking a bad disk but I hate to spend $200 to find out that wasn't it. I did try several dvd's and they all play fine.

Mine is messed up as well, I may just need a newer disc though. I'll figure it out when I get home. Hope you find the cure to yours as well.

I found this place,......I'll call tomorrrow an will inform

John I would first check if the DVD system works. If that works than most likely the gps works. I know theirs multiple threads on the problem. If I remember correctly most found it to be the discs. Question is can we retro the new que in our antique system. Good luck.

Personally I would not spend a dime fixing these GPS units. Mine gives bad directions more then good. The only thing I use it for is looking at interchange layouts and rely on my phone for much better directions and with voice commands.

Stella offers good advise to see if the problem is the disc. While not 100% legal, a working disc can be copied to make a good working disc if that proves to be the problem. See if it will play a DVD movie and you will have your answer.

I really wish there was a replacement head unit available that resembled the stock one.

Your Comments:

First of all, thank all of you for your comments.
I tried a DVD and it said the same thing,...."Insert Disc".
I've noticed that it seems to be difficult to load the disc, (stiff) and it doesn't always eject in a timely fashion.
I have an -09 nav-disc that has worked well up until now.

Again, I'll been calling tomorrow.

JB

Keep in mind that the newest map disk GM sells is 2008, whose maps actually date from 2005-2007.

For the cost of repairing the unit, you can buy a top of the line Garmin 3590LMT with lifetime maps, lifetime digital traffic, speech recognition & bluetooth. And, the Garmin can be programmed without the vehicle being stopped. By the way, updated maps are downloadable about every 3 months, and often reflect information about long-duration construction zones.

With the traffic feature, I've learned to tell my garmin to route me to a destination even when I know the way. And the other day I was proceeding along a major highway with the garmin on but not routing when it warned me about the road being closed several miles ahead.

There are a number of Garmins that cost less if you don't need all the features of the 3590LMT

Hmmmmmm...

-Bought the XLR-:

I can appreciate all the features the GARMIN has, but it doesn't replace the XLR's unit.

I'll bet you have your old Console TV under your new LCD,.........Huh?

This was our choice also! I did the same thing bought the same one too, for a 75 to 100 k vehicle the navigation is not up to standard to the car! My Garmin is how I got to Hilton Head SC, where I am posting this from right now and they do an excellent job!!

The Latest:

I got a hold of "Hi-Tech Electronic Services", (818-785-3085, in Van Nuys, California) and was quoted $420 to service and repair my problem with my 2005 GPS.
I googled the 'removal' of the unit, and it seemed quite simple, so I'll do the R&R and ship it in a week or so.
Thus far, this seems to be my best bet.

At least this will insure the unit functions properly, as compared to buying a, "used one" and then hoping the darn thing works.

[BTW, I'm using the '09 Disc that was "given" to me by GM/Cadillac, (The latest version for the XLR) as I pitched a B****, (as mentioned in a previous post), got two, (2) Discs, "East and West", and sold the "East Coast" disc on e-bay as I won't be needing it, and as no one wanted to buy it on this forum!]

I did not search "2005 CADILLAC XLR GPS Information Screen" nor did I give any location information for anything to know what is close to me.

Um, no. But I do have my old vcr still there since it elevates the blu-ray player and tivo enough so they can see the remote when I have my feet up in the laz-e-boy.

Repairing a non-working XLR gps makes about as much sense to me as repairing a failed Windows XP system instead of spending the same money on a new Windows 8 laptop. :D

Sounds like mine is a different problem. A DVD plays fine in mine so I guess it's the disk. Its kinda funny, I found a guy in town with another 04. I tried his disk and it worked. I thought, problem solved. Then he poped mine in his car. Worked fine. What's up with that. I put his back in mine and it said insert disk. Poped It back out and back in and it worked again. I don't care about the nav as I always use my iPhone, but the screen is too bright at night unless the map is working. I find myself shutting off the screen at night a lot and I never did that before. Someone was good enough to send me a copy of theirs from an 07,I think, just to try and it didn't work, although I know the player struggles with recorded disks though. I will probably just order one but I really hate to through away 200 bucks to find out that doesn't work.

Could be a little dirty, maybe? Try a blast of dry canned air. Cheaper then a disk and might just work. There are cleaning disks available also, never used one.
