If you accidently put foot on break and gas when you are starting the XLR 2005 will this cause the car to not start? It cranks but will not start.

This should not prevent the car from starting, especially if you tried depressing the brake the next time and it doesn't start.

The first thing to check is the condition of the battery and it's connections. If that's good, you need to check the ignition path, fuel delivery, and immobilizer systems.

Thanks we are going to let the car sit until tomorrow am and try again

I'm not sure about this for today nor if it exactly fits your description, but in the past if you put your foot on the gas to the floor and then cranked, no gas is delivered by the injectors. This is to clear a flood condition. In days of yore when flooding was much more common, that was how you cleared a flooded (with gas!) engine.

The reason why it worked back in the day of carbs and throttle bodies was everything was manual. Majority of cars today are drive by wire. Meaning theirs no manual linkage going to throttle. Theirs wires. Way back when you pushed the accelerator their was a rod or cable that moved the throttle plate on the carb. Which in return opened the throttle plate to suck air and it squirted fuel to mix with the incoming air.
To clear a flooded engine you would hold the accelerator pedal to the floor to open the throttle plates fully to allow as much AIR not FUEL to mix with the already rich air to fuel mixture in the cylinders.
Wouldn't think hitting both pedals would cause this situation. :dunno:

According to the XLR workshop manual, the 'clear flooded engine' function is still implemented in PCM software. Refer to 'Clear Flood Mode' under 'Fuel Metering Modes of Operation' towards the end of section 6. (Page 6-1219).

You would not think it but it will. It also happened to me with my big foot. I let it set for a while & started fine.
