Fuel Tank Details

Looking at the PDF reinforces what I've been thinking about concerning the two-tank system. When adding any fuel additives we usually figure how much to add by knowing the capacity of the fuel tank. That's all well and good if the tank were like it was in the old days, just one tank. Now we have this two-tank situation where one side (right hand side) gets used first before the left side begins to be used. Sooooo, we just poured enough additive in the tank figuring on a 18 gal. tank; but, in reality,
we double-dosed the mixture. Meaning when the LH tank begins to be used the additive has only been added to approx. nine gallons which make those nine gallons very
rich with additive.

Floyd,

If you are adding the additive on an empty tank, (both tanks near empty--actually the right empty and the left containing some fuel) during fill-up it should mix fairly well, as the left tank fills, it then travels through the crossover to fill the right side tank. So both tanks will end up with fuel that has the additive. Granted it's not like the 'old days' with a single tank and adding the additive to it, but it should still get mixed in well enough. JMO

This is true but if your down to about 1/4 tank and add the cleaner and fill up it should mix it together into both tanks? Although when I add the SeaFoam I still had 3/4 tank ( not thinking about the 2 tanks either) drove to the gas station and fill up the rest of the tank with 93 octane ????

Hey Cubby 2 great minds think alike!!!!!

IMHO, any additive will get diluted to a 18 gallon strength as long as you are below 1/2 reading on the gauge. As Cubby pointed out, the filler goes into the left tank and the overflow of the left tank fills the right tank. Additive will go into the left tank then be diluted and the distributed to the right tank. It could be that the right tank may have a slightly less concentration, but not a significant amount.

Further homogenous dilution will be achieved as you drive and the pressure bypass from the main pump in the left tank moves the fuel from the right tank to the left tank where it would mix further before being pumped to the engine. Remember that the right side tank goes empty first but the fuel going to the engine is drawn from the left tank.

Usually there is a broad range of acceptable concentration of additives so the exact strength is not critical. I recommend running the tank level to 1/4 on the gauge before adding any additive, amount based on 18 gallons, then filling up with fuel.
