I need to replace the Fuel Pump in my '05 XLR. For various reasons I'd like to "upgrade" it to the '06 - '09 Fuel Pump. The '03 - '05 Fuel Pumps are operated at multi-speeds through a modulator (FPCM). The '06 - '09 Fuel Pumps are operated at a single speed through a relay connected directly to the battery. I believe I can make a simple wiring change to the car to accommodate the newer style pump ... but ... It's the "I Believe" part that's risky.
I'm seeking any members of the forum with technical knowledge and skills to help me determine the feasibility and practicality of this mod. If you are willing and able to help please forward a PM.
The Fuel Tank (Fuel Reservoir) is the same for all model year XLR. So the newer Pump Assembly should fit physically. But there may be some connections between it and the car that aren't identical between the 2 pumps. This is one place I could use some guidance. Also, the electric motors are also a little different but I don't know if the difference are significant. I could use some advice from an electric motor specialist.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
