Family reunion

Yesterday, Kathy, Jeanie & I went to a family reunion for Jeanie's mother's side of the family. Jeanie's mother was one of twelve children and sadly, only one of them is still alive. It was nice to see everyone again and it was fun looking back through the old pictures. Time sure flies.:)

Just wanted to give you an update, pulse is up to 80, blood pressure 130/60 so that is the good news of the day for me. The bad news, my bone density has dropped from a minus 6 to a minus 12.5, have been put on another pill but it is only once a week. Doctor would have preferred a once a year injection but Medicare will not pay for it until I go one more point lower on the test. The injection cost $6,000.00, yes, you read it right, Six Thousand Dollars for one shot each year. The Arthritis report came back, severe in the total lumbar spine with no space between the vertabrea due to the degenerative disc disease and medium Arthritis in the left shoulder and severe in the cervical spine. I am now considering getting the shot and paying for it myself as the pill has a lot of bad side effects. I have no plans in letting this slow me down as long as I can drive and walk a little, I just have to be extremely careful and not fall or pull or push something heavy as my bones could break. Looking forward to my trip to Illinois in September and maybe on to Florida and a cruise with wonderful friends.

Glad to hear about your pulse and B/P... hope your bone density gets better. Is there any guarantee the shot will work; how many years will it take to see improvement?

Robert - I see your point .. $6,000 is NOTHING in comparison to maintaining your body - letting ourselves deteriorate to save a few bucks is not ever worth it. We cannot take our money with us and who better and what better way to spend it on than helping to assure us a better quality of life. We cannot make the insurance companies cover what they will not at this time. We are lucky to have money available to help ourselves - many do not. Taking the pills and having known side-effects? Nope, I'm with you ... I'll write the check.

There is no guarantee if the pill or the shot will help. It is Phosomax. I don't know how long it will take to build the bones up as the doctor said when you take the pill you are only getting 2.5% of the pill into your system, the rest goes out with your waste. Modern day medicine leaves a lot to be desired. I keep thinking about my third great grandfather, born October 19, 1781 and lived to be 92 years old and you can imagine what medical care was back in those days. Of course we didn't have chemicals sprayed all over our food when it was growing in the fields and gardens. The animals were not being fed steriods and so on. I am going to see what this other doctor has to say that my doctor has referred me to and then decide on the shot and of course see how the pill affects me. Anyway I had to top down today and enjoyed my drive to the doctor and then to Walgreens.

Well, the good part about a quiet forum is: everyone's XLR must be running good and out and about in the summer sunshine :blinzel:

The bad part is: I miss you guys :bawling: and wonder what you've been up to. Nothing exciting to report from my end - it's been pretty peaceful - I see my littlest (2-1/2) grandboy almost everyday - and I hardly ever seen the oldest grandboy (18) .... now that he has graduated highschool, found a full time job and a GIRL FRIEND (we call her "the little wife") he is too busy to play with me ... ;) The 15 yr old granddaughter is VERY busy doing teenage girl stuff ... but she still likes to come over and drive the golf cart around - that will stop when she gets her license, I'm sure....
Ray is working a lot (got to pay for that cruise coming up) - and I am not working enough .... Weather's been great ... and I have a guest coming from Chicago area to see me in a couple of weeks ... any guesses?

So, what have YOU been up to??

"Little Bugger" has been at Red Noland's for a couple of days. The passenger door window just does not want to go up after I put the top up or down. It stops after it has traveled about three inches so they ordered a new solinoid and it hasn't come in yet. They are also replacing both fobs as I have been locked out a couple of times and James just wants to make sure it doesn't happen again. The batteries are okay so he said he thinks new fobs are in order. After church I couldn't get either door to open, I took the fob out and hit the unlock button and then I was able to open the door. It did the same thing at the dealer's so they saw what it was doing. Other than that it has been working perfect and everytime it goes out of the garage the top is down. Our rains are coming late afternoon and lasting all night so I do my running around in the mornings.

Have been working in my gardens, cutting back the plants that have finished blooming. Watching the three baby Finches in the nest in my Christmas Wreath on my back wall under the roof of my patio. They will soon be ready to fly. This is the second hatching this year in the same nest and it is the third year they have built a nest in my wreath. The first year they had five and both times this year just three.

Not much going on here... it's raining to beat the band right now. All vehicles are garaged!!! Supposed to have large hail and 60 MPH winds tonight... good thing I watered the lawn this morning and the garden tonight when I got home from work!!!

We had our daughter surprize us with a visit from kansas for the past 6 days. Had a good time let her drive the XLR with the top down while it was overcast. The girl went crazy with this awsome car.

Speedway:wave::wave::wave:

Its been overcast this morning so I took the car out to the park and waxed it. This Black Star looks awsome. Cleaned the leather looks like show room new. Must have had 20 people walk over and look at it. they were all trying to figure out what it is. I should have gave them a rag and they could have helped buff it out.:chuckle

Lets make a run around the coast line of california this September. Take Route 1 all the way to Monterey is absolutely beautiful. We may do that anyone interested?

"Little Bugger" is home again with two brand new fobs and a new solinoid for the passenger door window. Everything is working great and all was covered under warranty. They had him all washed and shiny and of course I had to drive him home in the rain.

The baby Finches flew out of the nest, one wound up on the patio floor and of course Digby found it but didn't hurt it. It hopped around and got in one of the raised gardens. The mother Finch came back and somehow it is back in the nest. Guess it just wasn't strong enough to fly very much, maybe tomorrow it will fly away. It sure is fun to watch both mom and dad build the nest, mom lays the eggs but dad helps sit on them and after the baby's are hatched both parents feed the babies. They sure grow fast and before you know it they are gone from the nest but always come back and hang around.

Hi Gang,
I just got Star all cleaned up from a road trip to my youngest daughter's place in Wisconsin Dells, WI.
I secretly took my oldest daughter with me and it was a BIG SURPRISE to the youngest as they hadn't seen each other since their mother's funeral in Jan. 1999.
We drove from my home here in Lawndale, CA. to my adopted family's place in Lexington, OK. and spent a couple of days with them while my daughter and her two former babysitters got caught up on what's been happening in their lives.
Then we went straight up I-35 to I-90/94 east to WI.
While driving with the flow of traffic in Missouri, 80 to 85 mph, I got singled out of the group and was issued a speeding ticket for doing 85 in a 70 mph zone. That's the first ticket while driving the XLR and over 25 years of driving around the country in other vehicles.
I let my daughter drive Star three times and twice, I caught her falling to sleep at the wheel and had to take over. She said it was the "Elevator Music" playing on the XM Radio, the comfort of Star and the hum of the Corsa exhaust that was putting her to sleep. I think it was the lack of Caffine because she won't drink any.
We spent about a week in WI. at my youngest daughter's and her family which consisted of two out of three grandsons a granddaughter my daughters and a son-in-law.
By the way, at the begining of last month I became a GREAT-GRANDFATHER when my oldest granddaughter gave birth to a little baby boy. About 6 weeks before my 70th birthday.
Oh! And thank you Forum Administer for the Birthday Greetings.
After leaving WI., we took I-90/94 west through the northern states to Yellowstone National Park where we had breakfast and watched one eruption of Ole Faithfull before heading home. We left Ole Faithful about 10 AM on my birthday, 7/13 and pulled into my oldest daughter's place in Moreno Valley, CA. about 4 AM on 7/14. Then after unloading her and her stuff I drove another one and a half hour to my place in Lawndale, CA.

Now I'm ready to drive up the coast whenever we can get together. There is an old historical site we MUST stop at just north of me called Cold Springs Station and we should time it for a lunch stop. RA and Ray and I have talked about this RT. 1/101 drive before so LETS DO IT! BAMMMMM! Come on MMs lets get something going Star doesn't like sitting in the garage! She's nagging at me because I haven't worn out her last years shoes yet...

Sounds like a wonderful time, Jack. Thanks for sharing. I think its great that you like to take your XLR out across our wonderful country.

Hi Gang,
I just got Star all cleaned RA and Ray and I have talked about this RT. 1/101 drive before so LETS DO IT! BAMMMMM!

Jack - how great that you spent so much time with your girls and doing the thing you like best .... driving! :rocker:

Thanks for the invite ... sounds like fun ... maybe you and SpeedWay can get together and do this .... and maybe a few others will join in - I have to decline this invitation as I am doing this on a shortened version in August when I am having some company come in ... and otherwise, we are saving our vacation $$$$ for April's cruise, my highschool reunion weekend, a trip that we have planned to LV, and one over to Phoenix in the Fall. So much TIME and so little $$$ :pat: When we planned our retirement, I did not take into consideration that we would want to be so busy traveling .... and that there would be so many days (years) to fill up .... and of course, being blindsighted by this economy that is in the toilet has not helped ..

It's way too quiet around here ... makes one wonder. :dunno:

I know the weather is beautiful all across the States right now ... and it's vacation time .... where y'all at ...... and what are you doing??? :blinzel:

Getting a haircut, before attending a Luau with the GF. Then its off to Chicago tomorrow for a CarPC meet/cookout in Busse woods.

Just got home from Walgreens, picked up a thirty day supply of anti inflamatory patches, $400.00. That on top of my regular meds which run well over $500.00 per month. Just hope they work.:blinzel::blinzel::blinzel:
