Hi everyone - working on an inoperable top on my 2004 XLR. Tech2 reads that the Top Front Sensor needs replaced....so working on trying to get to it to replace.

Im trying to release the top manually and it seems to be stuck in the closed position. Have done the following sequence:

1) Opened trunk fully.
2) Unscrewed the manual release on the hydraulic pump (2 turns counter clockwise).
3) Got into center console and was able to lift flap behind the seats (pushing the two ears in as well).
4) removed the cover in the headliner and unlatched the top lock (turning in about a 1/4 turn counter clockwise).

When i try and lift the top up and back....the top seems to be stuck at the passenger side A-pillar. I can see it trying to release when i lift on the driver side.....but I cant get the passenger side to budge loose at all.

Any suggestions?

The actual latch is in tge center. The sides are just pins that locat the top. If its rekesed with the center latch then its in a bit if a bind th allow it to break from the back glass panel you may have to hold the manual center rekease firmly tiwRds open as it can spring back and wont tealeas the hook on the top and back gkass panel.

Using a friend - tried the wrench twist while lifting up....moved a bit further. Can start to see a gap between the top and the windshield....but still wont move past that. Its as if the back glass is not releasing from the top to allow it to move back more and fold. Is there something in the system that would hold this up that may be jammed?

The latch that releases the top center also has two cables that go to each side of the back gkass panel. They release a sort of hook that hold the top and back glass panel together ill have to look to see if you can see it from inside the car. Do you have the fkap behind the seat pulled all the way up with the corners folded in. It should be straight up in the center also the over center link across the back has to ber unlatched. Im thinking one of the two are not released. If you undo the fabric panel behind the seats from inside the trunk. Two loops on each upper corner you should see the cylinder behind the seat. Make sure its fully compressed.
