I just got my tech 2 do I need to download the software off the disc before I use it

Thanks Bart

Software should be in the tech 2. Plug it in the car and boot up. Select vehicle type from menus. XLR is a Y model

Since we are talking about Tech 2s, is it possible to use the Tech 2 to reprogram something?

Say make the fog lights always come on so they shut off the DLRs and don't burn up my somewhat in good shape headlights??

thanks I appreciate all the help
I plugged in the tech 2 went to diagnostics then to suspension
then dtcs it told me I didn't have the candi modual hooked up so I put it in line between the tech 2 and the obd2 connector it tried to establish communication after awhile it said some gibberish and locked up I must be doing something wrong any advice will be appreciated. Also I have a drivers door speaker out do I have to stick with bose and where is the best place to get one

Thanks Bart

Speakers really should be replaced with like kinds especially on our system.
Amazon.com: ACDelco 10315183 GM Original Equipment Front Door Radio Speaker: Automotive

The CANDI module is required. Not sure what you're doing wrong. I would start over from scratch. Is the power on like the engine was running?

The 'Candi' module is a inline add on module for 2003 and newer GM vehicles using a CAN network.

Without the Candi module you are dead in the water.

A real Candi module is about $600. Lots of fake Tech2s and Candi modules on eBay. I would suggest most are Chinese fakes.

My Chinese "fakes" work just fine. Don't think there is much fake about them and the ones used by GM were also made in China.

thanks for the info on the speaker.I do have the candi module hooked between the tech 2 and the obd2 connector power was on engine not running I will mess with it more when I have some time

Thanks Bart

I connect everything before I start my ignition, fire up the car, then power up the Tech 2. The CANDi module never misses a beat.

Wiring to variable effort steering acuator

Hello am new to this ...so hope am on the right thread forum this time:dunno: !!! I have two wires ( brown and white ) coming from the BCM that is mounted on back of the ABS.Both of these wires have power ....should one just have power and one should be ground ? If so... which wire should be hot and which should be ground ? Also the wires coming from the actuator ( on the power steering axle ) one is red and one is black... which wires ( brown and white ) from the BCM go to the red wire and which go to the black wire ? Two last questions my air bag light is staying on...
when i start the engine it blinks seven time then stop... can you tell me what do this mean ( as a code ) ? Last I got a code p0023( camshaft position actuator bank 2 ) what steps i need to do to correct this problem ?:dunno: Thanks Al !!!

Al,

The best way to get a good response to your question(s) is to start a new thread, since this one is related to the Tech 2.

Start by opening up the Technical Discussion section and pressing the "Start a New Thread" link. Post a good description that will attract attention, and you're on your way. Besides making it easier for you (and others) to find and reply to, later on (in months, or years!) someone searching will have an easier time locating the information, rather than having it buried in a Tech 2 thread.

Thanks for the information CC....:thumbsup as i stated am fairly new to the Forum.... hopefully i will get better as time past...again thanks !!! I notice from reading the differents forums questions that you are very knowledgeable with the XLR .... will you send me a respond to my questions that i have posted.... especially about the wires on the variable effort steering actuator ?

We all start somewhere when it comes to posting Al. I'll make you a deal: Start a new thread, copy and paste your questions, and I'll hit the books tonight and see if I can find an answer for you - unless some of the other knowledegable members beat me to it!
