It's the 'V' model grill. It was on the car when I bought it, but I probably would have put it on anyway. I like that mesh a LOT better than those Venetian blind slats on the base models. Also have it on the lower grill.
Have added Magnaflo mufflers. Curb sensor. Heat shield under the center console, and wind deflector. Red's getting pretty close to what I have in my mind's eye. Still would like to add backup camera, and upgrade the navigation system (the standard one SUCKS!). After that, maybe a little paint chip repair, and he'll be PERFECT!

What did you use for heat shield and did you install under the car or did you remove the console? I have been wanting to do something about that - you never have to worry about a coffee going 'stone cold' in an XLR :squint:

Here's what I got (2 of them). I JUST had these put in and have not driven Red enough to really test it out. So I can't give you a definitive report on how well it worked - or not. As I get some input, I'll let you know.

Did not remove console. Was installed under car between pipes and floor

Fast color

I see you got the FAST COLOR! Good choice, enjoy! :chuckle :burnout:
Yeah, I get asked all the time, "How fast is it?" My stock answer is, "A lot faster than I'm brave enough (or crazy enough) to drive!":)
I didn't buy it as a racer - that's what 'Vettes are for. I got it for enjoyable top-down cruising. And anything over about 60 is NOT enjoyable top-down.

Which way did you go with the heat shield? Did resolved the heat issue? I waiting on my exhaust man to get driveway to his garage paved so we can get it on his lift. I didn't buy a plate yet thinking about Elite Ceramic coated for around $300

Hey GDaddy, where is this item sourced from? I tried googling it......

So that says 1997 to 2004 C5's.... so it the tunnel the same in our XLR's to the 04's C5's?
That link is great. If you follow the further info it explains the thermal difference as well there is a link to photos of its installation!

To My understanding yes it's the same tunnel plate as the C-5 there's been a few on here that have installed a Elite plate may be one will chime in and verify if that's correct.

Heat shield results

Greytoad and Grand Daddy, here's what I used - 2 of them. Installed to the underside of the tunnel, over the pipes.

We took about a 100 mile trip today, and while it didn't keep the console cool, it certainly kept it cooler. Used to be like an radiator. Now, just mildly warm. Still wouldn't work for storing your Snickers or Hershey bar, but doesn't heat up the cabin now. The right side of the leg is cool now - no roasting.

I don't know about that ceramic shield, but hope this helps answer some questions about my solution.

Thanks Doug. Sounds like one good solution but I have been reading about the Elite plate and it has other benefits like rigidity etc so I am hoping to find out if that piece will for sure fit my car and although it is a bit pricey it is also supposed to really stop a ton of the heat :reddevil that is invading my console and the interior of the car. I will keep everyone posted if I find out for sure etc.

There is a post on here about hot consoles somewhere that someone already installed one these Elite plates, it should be the correct plate because it fits the C-5 frame and and it's the only one I believe that's offered by Elite. I've also seen used old plates on eBay from being switch out. This particular plate is also a little bit thicker and stronger and actually helps stiffen the frame from twisting. And it's Ceramic coated and has a heat shield installed on it too.

Heatblok Material!
Checkout this video. I had to email this guy Tim Cox to order a piece of this fabric for less then $50 with shipping it don't burn and he heats that coin until glowing red over his arm. I'm going to install some of this up in the tunnel also when I do this!
