2006 BLACK RAVEN XLR
Hi all, I'm pleased to join your site. I have owned many sports cars and finally decided this was the perfect fit for me now. I'm 59 and my last 5 cars were Dodge Vipers. I did race them, have the record 1/4 mile time for a stock 2002 rt/10. I have many questions and looking for much needed advice on a few concerns & issues with my XLR. To get things started I'll ask the basics and appreciate any and all help.

1. how can I find my build number ( order it was built )
2. I have the fuel tank issue ( sensor not working correctly in tank ) saw a bulletin on this. I have a warranty which covers this , however does GM help with this known problem ?
3. Best place to get used parts ?

Again thank you all for letting me be a new member here, hope to contribute in the future.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the XLR Net!

Your build number is generally the last four digits of your VIN. Just look at the base of the driver side windshield. If you haven't already done so, check out the XLR Registry here:

Cadillac XLR Registry for 2004 - 2009 Cadillac XLRs and XLR-Vs

I'll let other members here answer your other questions.

Go to your local GM dealer service dept. and have them print out the GM service history, carfax and the GM build sheet. They have instant access to these things and can print them off easily. These items have a large amount of info on your car.

GM

I think that GM has pretty much disowned this redheaded step child. They dont help on anything. There are dozens of known and reoccurring problems that hey do nothing about. Parts are running out. When the low (very low) supply of windshields runs out it will be interesting to see if they allow the maker of the glass to make them and sell direct. Right now they wont and there is only one glass company with the molds. If you have an extended warranty use it till they drop you. have the dealer fix the tanks. both pumps and check the shocks. if leaking thats about 3 grand if the warranty will cover it .

I called Safelite today just to see what was up with the windshields and they say they have access to plenty of them, one for my 2009 with HUD is $890.00 installed.

very interesting

Safelite does not make that windshield. They have to buy it thru a gm dealer and that is the only way to get one. When GM 's supplier runs out that will be it. GnM does not stock the windshield it is sent directly from the manufacture to the dealer. Believe what you want. I spoke with GM parts about this to try and resolve the future problem.
Ok interesting I spoke with a safelite corporate guy and he says they have an OEE replacement .However GM says they cannot make one as they are protected from duplication for whatever reason. 2 locations showed to have them in stock but when called they said they had to order them. So I will follow up. If there are plenty we can move on to other things. if not well......

Welcome : )

Welcome to The XLR Site. Post some pictures when you can. Parts? This is always a bit of a challenge particularly on body parts. My friend Danny in Chicago got rear ended some years back, while the damage would have been considered minor on most vehicles, it is my understanding that his insurance company totaled his XLR because they couldn't get the required parts. He did keep the car and repaired it himself with salvage yard parts. None inexpensive. :( But then, that's why they are unique vehicles, ;)

I just had mine replaced. Safelite didn't act like it was a big deal. Apparently they had them in stock. Got it done in one day. So thankfully that's ONE thing we don't have to worry about right now. Cost was a little over $800.

you are correct

actually they should drop the price as they do have lots of them. Gm price is cheaper and a better quality if you pick them up and install them yourselves or have a local installer. I went by and looked at the safelite and it is a very cheap made unit. About 3-4 years it will start delaminating as most of theirs do. Every time the insurance company used them around here their was always a problem. But they will replace it again I believe.
