Certified Car and Major Guard Warranty

One of the vehicles that I'm looking at is an 06 XLR that is certified, but is currently for sale at a non Cadillac dealer (it previously was listed by a Caddy dealer and therefore retains it's certification). My understanding is that this car is not eligible for Major Guard warranty because the new car warranty has expired. I spoke with someone at GM who said that if I was purchasing the car from a GM dealer I could buy the Major Guard AT TIME OF PURCHASE since it is certified, but not after purchase. In this case, not being at a GM dealer, I would be SOL, as they say. Does this sound like correct information to you?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Doug

Go to "Cadillac general Discussion". Now scroll down to "Extended Warranty" I believe post 8 will help. however there may also be others also posted.:D

Thanks for your help...

Can anyone tell me how Major Guard works - is it like a certified warranty where no money is exchanged for covered repairs, you simply bring the vehicle in and they fix the problem (assuming the part is covered)? How about 3rd party plans - in these cases does the customer pay for the repair and then gets reimbursed? Sorry, for being ignorant about the process...

You need to go back to the threat I gave you in post 2 if you read the entries most of these questions have been answered. There are links also in these post you can click them and then call for any other info and cost. I do recommend if you do not have an extended warranty you should try to obtain one the cost of repairing these cars is quite high the warranty is well worth it.

Doug ... If your car is a CPO, you cannot buy a Major Guard ... yes.... SOL. Whereas a Major Guard can be renewed, and usually is. I just learned this after we purchased an Escalade that is a CPO. You are better off to buy the GM protection ... I wish I had known that a few months ago. :bash: The guy who explained all of this to me was a referral from JetBoy .... I think Black Cadillac ... I can't remember. If you can't find his posted referral when searching this forum, then PM him .... That guy was a wealth of information.

Thanks for the reply. One car I have been considering is an 06 that is out of new car warranty but has about 1.25 years of certified warranty left. The problem is what I do when it expires. Looks like Major Guard is out. I've read on here to not consider 3rd party plans - is that the general consensus? I suspect there may be more hassles and delays with 3rd party plans?
