HRE 543R: Testing clearances on 2007 XLR

Mufflers

The muffler part number for 2007 and 2009 are different. Naturally the tips welded to the 2007 will be cause for a higher price than 2009 due to the 2009 not having tips welded to the outlet itself. Also the H pipe on a 2007 base is different part number than a 2009 Platinum. Who knows what else they could have changed under there on a 2009. So the shape of the H pipe and mufflers could have been changed besides just the tips. Looks can be deceiving but there must be something different otherwise they wouldn't have different part numbers.

Madcurl, if it were me in your case I would just have the muffler shop modify the outlet on your mufflers to go in the center of your 2009 Platinum tip.

Yep, won't take a muffler shop an hour to cut off the existing tailpipe, bend a new piece and weld on and you're done.

I guess I'd wonder if the V hood is exactly the same as a base hood and thanks for checking into this but unless I could find a good use one I don't believe I'd spend almost grand on the front grill, but I really do love the look! Thanks again!

Nearing final completion!

I stopped by the shop today. They are putting the finishing touches on my XLR. The sensors too are painted and a final tweak of the passenger side 2009 side vent, but other-than-that, we're done and for those that are interested I took some pics of the vent cut out area. No doubt the 2009 are exact cuts,but this will do. Next, a visit to a muffler shop for mounting the 2009 Platinum exhaust tips. I'll post pictures in a few.

The back end is up in the air because they were re-attaching the re-painted fascia. The car isn't wet sanded nor polished. That's on the list of things to do.

Upon closer inspection the passenger side vent was a bit off, so Joe (The manager) readjusted the part.

The goo is the double sided 3M adhesive tape.

As you can see this tweak isn't for the faint of heart. Initially, the shop did not want to send me the pre-cuts for fear I might freak out upon seeing the pictures, but since they're needed some readjustment I was able to see it and I'm OK with it.

Our XLR have a pillow like material to absorb sound is guess, but the shop slightly moved it.

When I last looked I think the 2009 front fenders were about $1,200 per side. A bit more than pre-2009 fenders. Either way, once you begin the cuts its no turning back. IMHO It's best to let the professionals handle it.

Now let's move onto those pesky little sensors.

The shop color matched the sensors and I haven't tested them to see if they are still functional.

Well, I guess this proves that you can purchase 2009 Platinum parts for prior XLR years. I took a chance and it appears to have paid off. Cost a bit more, but if you want the look of a 2009, but don't want to pay the high dollar amount I think this is perhaps a better route, especially if your front end is damaged.

They did use a cut out cardboard pattern to mimic the backside of the vent.

Well, today was the day to pick up my XLR. I asked that the shop clear coat the underside of the hood. Only two things that need addressing which is the head-up display. The interior shop moved part of the plastic cover onto the viewing area which blocked partly the read outs and there's a minor scuff on the passenger door which can be buffed out, but other-than-that I'm pleased with the outcome.

I gassed up the car and aired up the HRE wheel. Afterward, I just stood there at the Chevron station just looking at the car. Truly, on the outside the car looks totally different. It's like night & day.
