I see some owners mention that they have an XLR, and others specify an XLR (Base). I searched and did not see what the difference is.

There terms are for the most part, interchangeable.

The XLR-V and XLR are very similar --if you disregard the more powerful engine, and loss of Adaptive Cruise Control. The XLR Platinum is a base model with some chrome bling that somehow justified raising the price by $10k.

Thank you for the reply. I thought the base was a different trim level for the XLR, good to know.

There were only XLRs in 2004 & 2005.

Starting in 2006, there was the XLR and the XLR-V, which was supercharged. It was at that point that people started referring to the XLR as the "base" model.

The XLR has adaptive cruise control and the XLR-V does not.

The XLR-V is supercharged.

The XLR has 320 hp and the XLR-V has 443 hp.

I was really thinking seriously about getting one, but the total number of XLRs being so low and hearing that Cadillac is not going to offer parts scares me. A little sad about this, as I really like the design.

In that case, a XLR may not be for you.

Cadillac built less than 16,000 cars from 2004 to 2009.

But don't think that the XLR is the only car that might be difficult to get parts for. Keep in mind that the newest one is seven years old. Not unique to the XLR.

But if you don't want folks to ask you questions practically every time you stop for gas or at other places, don't get a XLR.

If you don't want folks to ask you "Is that one of the new Cadillacs?" on a regular basis, don't get an XLR.

If you don't want people approaching you to ask "What kind of Car is that?", don't get an XLR.

Let me quote my friend and fellow member Cubby.

"If you want to blend in, ride the bus!"

Good luck with your decision and best wishes. :thumbsup
