I am a new member, and looking for a XLR V. What should I look out for, are there problems that are hard to fix? Are parts available? I have seen that the top may be a problem. I own a 2016 CTS V and looking forward to play with the XLR V.

if you are looking for a V you automatically get out of the 04&05 problems. Top operation is very important. Cycle top at least four or five times at different test drive intervals. Look in trunk drivers side hole for sighs of water. Make sure this drain is open. Extended warranty is also a big plus. 07 up on the V's have the assemblers plaque on the engine. Look good at shocks for leaks. Take serial number to GM dealer to go over service records. That generally will tell you of lingering problems. Look at headlights and tail lights. Replacement are A big problem now. And of course accident history. Good luck hunting. I enjoy my V.

This thread has a good general discussion: https://www.xlr-net.com/forums/cadi...06-xlr-any-suggestions.html?highlight=Records

As well as this one: https://www.xlr-net.com/forums/cadi.../8021-pre-inspection-checklist.html#post56624. If you want to follow ccclarke's manual checklist, XLR manuals are on the forum under the "Tech Center" drop down, broken down by year. Not sure there's much change from year to year once you get past '04-'05.

Th biggest thing that will make repairs hard to fix & pricey is the same for any high end small sports car: labor costs just to get to things (although it doesn't cost several hundred dollars just to change the oil as I've heard for Porsche Boxsters). However, apart from a tendency to develop oil leaks, the engines & transmissions on these cars are pretty rock solid. There are a few members on here with 200k+ miles on theirs.

Keep in mind there were only about 2,000 XLR-V's made, and once you deduct the ones that have been totaled etc., you have an even smaller pool to work with. We bought a V several years ago, took about 6 months to find what we wanted. No regrets though! Also, realize it's not going to be close to the bells & whistles on your 2016 CTS-V from a technology stand point (such as there's no launch control), but it's still no slouch performance-wise. And I would bet you will get WAY more attention/questions than for your CTS-V, which to me is something of a sleeper - & a lot of people think a XLR is "the new" Cadillac model.

Happy hunting!

Big Thanks

Thanks for the good information, I will take it to heart. I am in no hurry to buy one but shopping is half the fun.

It took me almost a year to find my V and I’m so glad I held out. I got lucky enough to find a low mileage, one owner, accident free vehicle
and I got a top of the line warranty to with it which has proven to be money well spent. Happy Hunting!
