VVT solenoid actuator oil leak UPDATE

If you have leaks you need to replace the magnet unit compete.. The plug is just so you can insert the gm tool for alignment. You do not want to remove the vvt unit from the camshaft. Without care you can change the timing. If your oik has been changed thet are oil feed and dont require any cleaning. There are several write ups on how to change the vvt solenoid magnets. You need to again follow proper procedure to align them. you do not want to remove the center plug.. Not sure what you found listed as that plug. but the ew ones come with a new plug

If I were you I would change the the whole thing, they are not that expensive, I listed the part number earlier in this post. If your car is running ok I would leave the cam alone, "if it ain't broke"... No relearn needed.

I replaced all the vvt solenoid gona take the car out when it stops raining! I dropped one of the screws on the drivers side and picked it up with a magnet and this clip was on the magnet with the screw when I pulled it out of the engine compartment? Any ideas were it goes? Looks like a crank window retaner clip to me?

How wide? The old window crank clips go back to the 60's. many of the vacuum lines and trans lines have a clip but different. Any chance it could have been on your magnet when you got it out of your tool box? Reminds me of my youth when we would put a very special and important looking bolt in the bolt box of someones teardown. we would not let them look too long before we told them about it. Usually they would go ask the old tech where it came from.

Oh and the site oemcats is good to look at to see where parts were used , size of the box they came in and a little about them. All of the listings of cost and who has them is outdated by 5 years or more. That plug has been discontinued for years. Summitt raceing will tell you they can order it but in 6 months you have to ask for your money back.

I figured it was just an old site refrance. The magnet was clean when I used it the car was in a front end accident and repaired. My first thought also was that the clip was dropped in the engine bay at that time. I was just getting ready to search around in the lower engine bay with my borescope but i think I'll just not worry about it. Unless you think it may be a part off my car? I would hate to have the line for the supercharger cooler or worse blow out while driving it.

Looks good. Ive seen it before just not sure of the location. Im pretty sure its an electric connection retainer so a plug on something . most likely a round plug.

I'm gona get my borescope out and look around see if I can find it before i put it all back toghether. There is a harness about the size of that clip that looks like it goes to abs pump possibly? They had a hard time finding parts to repair the car after the accident( imagine that 😂) and im going to be pulling it apart this fall and modifying some stuff on it and i could get a better look. They did have to put an 05 headlight on passenger side cuase could not find the articulating light from 06-09 for it. The wire harness has been modified for that ( and lights do not move currently) may be part of that deal i olan on fixing.i attached a pic of were i put the magnet down for refrance hoping might jog the memory. I know another guy who used to do corvette maintainces at a dealer and the xlr was also his job. He said been so long hard to remeber a lot of stuff about them. Red circle is were I went down with the magnet and blue circle is abs pump location.
