Help! Trunk Lid

The 2004 & 2006 parts lists (the only one's I compared against each other) do show struts and lift cylinders used in the rear deck lid, (and elsewhere in the folding top) but the terms are interchangeable/inconsistent. Generally, lift cylinder pertains to the hydraulic system and struts refer to gas shocks/air assist cylinders. (But not always.)

For more info, you can check here: http://www.gmpartscenter.net/index.php?type=parts

You can tell which is which by the price, regardless of the nomenclature. Gas struts are <$100. Lift cylinders are >$250. I'll peer under the side carpeting this weekend to see if anything is covered up, but I know I didn't have any struts protruding from the side carpeting as shown in the previous pics (thanks!)

Could someone post a picture of these gas struts please? Also chime in as to what years have them.

Thanks,

CC

Build date 12-9-2003, 2004 XLR. I have the trunk struts on each side of the hydraulic cylinders.

our '05 XLR,,,

quote: "The rear deck lid doesn't use gas struts,,,,,"

CC my 05 has gas struts beside the hyd cyl 4in forward of the hyd cyl. I think they hold the trunk open after the hyd cyl lifts the trunk as stated above,i can get part # if needed.

ald42 and Onalaska are correct, on their posts.

I'm spending Thanksgiving in Wyoming.................when I reached Denver last week during sub-freezing temps,,our trunk lid developed the same condition Richiez stated on the first post,,,and while in northeastern Wy in 40 degree temps down to sub-zero temp, its still doing the same > slow fall trunk lid when opened.

After reading this thread last nite, I went out into the garage to look at what CC described. What I found are the two, high pressure, **Lift-O-Mat gas struts in the trunk cavity....one on each side of the trunk divider, latch-lock bases,,,,,,, installed vertically inside the trunk side material. They are black, with blue letter writing,,,,and their purpose appears to be the function of holding the trunk lid UP during opening operation.

In dealing with Mopars with gas filled hood struts made by Arvan-Meritor Corp,,,,I know these struts became 'weak' over time and their seals leak the gas within. The XLR
factory OEM, Lift-O-MAT struts are made/supplied by **STABILUS. Knowing something about gas struts from experience, I'm amazed the struts have lasted nearly ten years in our Caddy.

Can't wait 'til we return to the warmth and sunshine of the southwest.....
