Storage ideas

I love this car, but when my wife and I go somewhere there isn't much room for her "stuff."
Have any of you developed any devices or systems? I use the trunk frequently, but any cabin ideas/tricks would be good to know. I am not enough of a contortionist to use the tiny compartments in the waterfall. The door pockets are useful, but small

If your wife wants to always get in and out of the car, Then she can put her "stuff" in the little storage well on the passengers side of the trunk. remove the top panel and wala. You have a space that can store thinks like bottles of wheel cleaner, microfiber towels, i even can add a 6 pk crushable cooler in the area but then i have to have the cleaners somewhere else. Then i can put the bag chair in the area that is open 3/4 trunk area. Then the thin board goes in the main area of the trunk so i can still drop the top.

I was hoping for more "inside the cabin" ideas that you guys may have tried. I have done a few product searches without any real success. I use the trunk constantly, she likes her stuff to be handy.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I've used ideas in this thread before (scroll down to the post by Lola's Mom): https://www.xlr-net.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-5964.html.

I mainly try try to get down to only the absolute necessity "stuff" for the passenger compartment & keep it at my feet.

Take half as much stuff and twice as much money!

My wife had to learn how to "pack lighter".

Pull out the rubber insert and remove the ashtray from the middle console.

It will still hold a cup pretty well, you can put a cozy around bottles or cans to hold them tighter, and if you don't put cups/drinks there, it's a pretty nice sized space once you get out the useless rubber and ashtray.

The rubber insert has a little glue on the bottom holding it in, just pull on it slowly and it will let go, the ashtray just slides back then out.

How about this, I have two but only ever use one because we pack light, travel with the top up (until we get to our destination hotel), and need to leave room to pack the trunk to capacity on the way home :thumbsup (sorry inside joke for the MMs).

In my old life, I wore suits daily, so I have a plethora of different hang-up bags - 1-suiter, 2-suiter, etc. I immediately realized after getting Elwood that there was plenty of room behind me and behind PJ (we're both short) for a soft-side three-suiter and still be able to adjust the seats for comfort. The above can be purchased on eBay for about $175.

I have never been able to get the ash tray out. I figured somebody had super-glued it in to stop some perceived rattle. I will try the "remove rubber insert and slide ash tray back" trick, and see if that fixes it.

BTW, is that some kind of USB connector in your lighter socket?

Tim

Yes, it's a Griffin Technology Powerjolt compact adapter GC39956.

They have an even smaller Micro version. GC23095

I like it because the end is flush with the edge of the lighter socket.

If I remember right, the ashtray was very tight, I might have put something plastic in there to wiggle it loose.

Let me find the ashtray and double check it slides back for removal.

I've ordered one of their dual-slot USB adapters. Should get here Monday. Thanks for the tip!!!

The ashtray DID come out, after I got the cup holder out of the way, and "gronked" on the ashtray a bit (straight back). On mine, nothing was glued, just really tight. I cleaned everything up and put it back, but at least I now know how to get it all out next time.
