parts

I'm sure lots of members would love to watch this come together. If you'd like to share, you can download pics from your computer/URL into you profile and we can watch as it comes together. What say Yeeee? BTW, what do you mean by a front cover, could I assume you mean the raised hood? and rebar is the frame? As you can see I just buy em, I don't put them together. I'll check So Cal junk yards for ya. We have a lot of accidents out here, but we all get to drive at 85. No that's not the posted speed limit its the norm and there's so many cars on the road, who is the Man going to pull over?:dunno:

I bought a front bumper cover before I new there was a difference. Just the cover only but it is absolutely like new and the paint is beautiful. In my language I mean from the frame forward. I have all the wheelwells coming in this week along with a trans cooler and lines. When they get here I will have to assess what is needed for the rest of the front. I have the chrome mesh upper grill, fog lights and headlights. Also have to see what electronics are in the passenger front fender. There are some things tie wrapped to the wheel well but there are some empty plugs looking very lonely.:dunno: I guess I need to study my manuals and see if there is a diagram. Rocky:confused:

Bumpers

Don't get the 09 bumper confused with the 06-08, it's different

There are many different parts needed if you go with the '09 front--the grilles are different, the fog lights are different and I believe the absorption block behind is different. I think you already stated you had the grilles, etc., so I would stick with the '06-08 cover.

thanks for that...I put a listing under parts for sale and someone told me to get an 09 as it looks tougher...That's all I need is another wall hanger LOL:mad:

bumpers

Hi Cubby, I agree, the last time I had some dental work done up front, I was considering the facie and bumper change out to an 09 and there where a lot of changes you had to make so I put that aside for another day. Just a quick hack, Volant has still not gotten a clearance from the state for the 06-V air intake but it was good you had a connection for a stock setup. It's not hard to change out each two years to get through inspection in CA.

Click on my pictures on my profile or here. Their is a picture of both my XLRs facing out of the garage and that bumper looks the same for the 04 as the 06 :dunno: Almost twins.jpg

Yea you can definitely see that the acc isn't on the V version as it is on the base.

The shinny expensive ones.:chuckle

bumper

So, why are you looking for a new bumper when the bumper skin you have should fit the regular & V models except for the 09? I guess I'm missing something:(

Actually, the V and the base front bumper covers are different part numbers at GM. I checked with the GM parts department here in Billings. It may fit, but I would imagine it is slightly different, so I'm thinking with the base cover, you would be fighting the fit while installing. Maybe it has something to do with the V hood because of the raised area??:dunno:

Different mounting for the lower grill? Just a guess.

garage

Rod, Check my photos in my profile and there is a pic of my 04 & 06-V facing out in my garage, even blown up, and I can't see any difference in the skin except probably the price, which I can't see.

It would appear that the curvature of the upper corners of the opening for the lower grille are slightly different. It looks like the V has tighter corners than the base.

I do not have side by side, from what I have been told, the lower facia on the V is slightly different as Is the lower grill. If you guys won't point and snicker at me in September I am gong to save my $1500 and go with the base cover My chrome mesh will fit in the base opening and the lower grill probably won't make a lot of difference:banghead:

electronics in right front fender

Ok I got a new HP laptop ad my phone will not download pics to it so Will have to take the laptop to the car. There are a bunch of electronics tie wrapped to the wheelhouse where It meets the door. does anyone have clue as to the placement of the electronics? The way it looks, all of this will be covered by the fender and therefor unacessable

There is a plastic panel in the fender well that covers this. If the wheel is off the car you can access it easier and there are bolts into the floor pan also holding that on - no need to touch the fender. This covers the back of the BCM body control module which is accessible under the carpet of the passenger side footwell. It has a lot of fuses and if needed can be replaced but will need to be reprogrammed by the dealer. If most of your electronics work on the body it may be ok.

update

My BCM is good ..don't know how the car runs without it. Found out that what is hangin from the rf wheelhouse is part of ECM found a complete one for $300 so at least I can plug in the rest of the harness. Going to dig into the floorboard to see where the BCM module goes

I guess this must be what they call a labor of love. I remember Montana Rod when he took on an XLR wreck and had to give him props for all his efforts. We will help you keep the enthusiasm going.
