Please tell me how to replace the passenger side sun visor on my 2006 XLR-V. It looks simple enough by looking at the replacement one I bought, but I don't really know how to take off the little plastic screw cover without breaking it. This is the second sun visor replacement. The first was replaced by the dealer under warranty. The sun visor internals are made of delicate plastic paddles that appear to easily break off. These visors are expensive! The dealer wants $250 for the visor plus installation costs, but I found a new one on-line from a supplier for $130 and want to install it myself without damaging the brittle plastic screw cover.

I also had to replace mine. I used a small pocket knife which will pop it loose easy. I have been trying to find the dr. side with home link with no success.
I mentioned the visors was of poor design & upset one of the members. LOL
Good luck

On the new replacement visor, I noticed a little square plastic loop. Does the plastic cover have a male end that goes into that loop? Do I slide the narrow knife into the split in the plastic and just pull it down? I assume it there is a male end that is in the loop, it will easily pull out when I pull down on the plastic screw cover. I am guessing that after I install the new visor that the male end goes back into the loop and just push snaps into place. Am I correct in my assumption?

If you are still looking for a left side sun visor for your XLR, I suggest Ebay or Amazon. I found mine on Ebay!

Slide the cover do not lift with the knife. Has male & female connection. Been searching Amazon & Ebay. Can get new ones from GM for about $98.00 but do not have home link. I check everyday hoping to come up with a used one.

Do I slide it up or down?

You have been very helpful to me and I will also try to help you be doing research for a left sun visor with a home link. Please tell me what color you need.

Homelink in visor

The newer GM vehicles don't come with Homelink systems. I converted mine, so it would work with my "mild to wild" exhaust system, instead of the remotes that come with the kit (for the dual mode V systems). The mild to wild systems are not compatible with the newer GM system, as well as some of the newer garage door openers.

In order to do this, you have to crack the visor (literally - they are epoxied together), and replace the unit) module with a "Homelink" module. You can buy these as separate units, or get a donor visor to do this. They are plug and play, to the same connector inside the visor, and the same dimension. click it back together and epoxy shut and you have "Homelink". Make sure you get the units with the rolling codes capability - made after 2001, if you want to use it with your garage door opener that uses this technology.

Now, I have easy access to the "wife" setting (mild), and the "husband" setting (wild), without having to fumble for the remote fob.

If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, you can take the module to your local auto upholstery shop and they will do it for you for about $25.

The answers to getting that plastic cover off are addressed well, in the previous posts - pry and slide from the inside. This exposes the mounting screws and you pull the unit out and plug the unit back in to the connector tucked inside the upper pillar.

Hope this helps someone...

Try Gm Genuine parts ;1 855 902 6413 i found the small's I was in need for my 2005 .also look up Nalley Buick Gmc the guy in parts dept. was kind enough to search and found the bottom trunk carpet brand new in the original box they are in Georgia i had the sides and trunk lid backing but when my car came to me in Ohio after a wholesale purchase I looked in vain thought i was sol also on another forum blog i read today some one was asking for a diagram to show how to change the drive belts Its a 1hour tech job and it takes 4 the twi belts cost $55 or so and its a hideous job for less than $200. Let a GM dealer's service techs do it because setting your self on fire is less stressful

Fulvi05XLR,
I see you are located in Akron. Check out the Dublin Arthritis Foundation Cruise In and Car Show. It would be great if you could make it down to Columbus. Here is a link to their registration page. We'd be glad to have you join us, even if it is only for Saturday.
