paint color

Isn't r6p a GM Early order activity code? Anyway... Hi, just came aboard, nosing around for an XLR-V. I presume the later the model the better? Though, not crazy about that Jaguar-like trim on the 2009. I had heard that they actually made a handful of 2010 models? True? Thanks

Yes, the later the better... starting with late 2006 or 07. The first model headlamps had a problem with melting driving lights. I don't know of any XLR's actually titled as an 2010... the last one rolled off the assembly line in April, 2009. Good luck in your search... hope you find just the right one!!

Paint Color

Paint code is 80U/WA301N Red Jewel Tintcoat (Infrared)

I have a 2007 XLR and I need to get some touch up paint. The code on the car is only 301N is that the same as 80U/WA301N ? Also is it "Infrared" or "Red Jewel" which one do I get?

Thanks
Richard

301N is the WA301N or 80U. Infrared and Red Jewel are the same colors. You can have your dealer order it for you or you can go to Dr. Color Chip ( www.drcolorchip.com ) and order it.

Well I'm a little ticked now. I thought this was a bug dropping or something. But after looking and checking with my fingernail. It's a chip. Also I found this flaw. It looks like someone made a couple marks in the paint or pieces of their hair made it on the car right before they sealed the paint.

Chubby would you happen to know what these codes are: IL2, K59, BC/CC. U 812k, and 192

I read IL3 is part of interior trim. and I think 192 stands for black?? :dunno:

My 2004 is Thunder Grey Also at the top of the panel that holds these codes, after the vin number I have: GKHP4H and 6YV67

Thanks

I can help a little with some of these. RPO codes tend to be three digits, so some of these I have no idea.

IL2--Has to do with Trim, Interior Design
K59--Is Adaptive Cruise Control
BB/CC-- ????
U 812k--Could be 812, which is Trim Combination
192--Is Ebony Leather

If you pm me your email address, I can send you the GM RPO code file I have.

BTW--Drop the H in my name on your post, it's Cubby.

Apology accepted... it is interesting that you received three touch-up bottles, though. When I restored my XLR from being totalled, I just used the correctly matched basecoat, followed by the clearcoat and the match was right on. In most of the newer colors, pearl metallics are used in the basecoat; the reason for the different colors in the paint, i.e., if you look close, there are greens, and blues, in the metallic look.
In many cases in the aftermarket refinish, there can be several "variances" in the same code, i.e., lighter, darker, redder, yellower, etc. The reason for this is when cars are painted at the factory the paint is drawn from large (600+ gallon) vats of color. Usually the color is drawn from the bottom of the vat of color. Even though the color is constantly stirred and agitated, the color does change slightly from car to car. My paint man has actually painted color chips for each of the variances for every code. I hold these chips up to the car that I am going to paint, and pick the closest match. Even then, I end up having to blend the color into the adjacent panels.

That explains why my touch up bottle from the dealer is the wrong shade. I had some rock chips so I went to the dealer and gave them the vin. They gave me a color called Luxor blue. Which my color is xenon blue. He said it was the same color different name? When I filled the chips I used a single hair off a paint brush. Touch ups went good except when dry the original paint is just a shade darker than the touch up. I thought maybe because it needed a clear topcoat to darken it allitle?

Must of been a late night or early mourning for markski. He said chubby:laugh:must have been on another site right before:confused:

From the pics it looks like the flat top of the trunk lid? Could those hair lines be stress cracks from the trunk being misaligned and closing binding something up?

Can't help you on the GKHP4H

The 6YV67 is part of the VIN designation

1G6YV--1=U.S. built, G6=Cadillac, YV=XLR Roadster

Your VIN for 2004 model year should start: 1G6YV34A*45 the star is another number, which is a check digit.

The 3 designates it as a 2-door convertible, 4=restraint code, A=LH2 Engine, 4=Model Year (2004) and 5=Build Plant, Bowling Green, KY. The last six are the production sequence numbers.

I agree, IMHO looks like stress cracks.

The BC/CC means Base Coat, Clear Coat... should be followed with your color paint code. Mine is 80U, which is Infrared. In my paint codes book, it says the color is named Red Jewel. When this code was used on the Corvettes, it was called Monterey Red.
