Hi again CCC --- I have questions maybe you can help me with : )
An OBD II/III scan tool can be useful for engine codes, but won't communicate with the dual LAN, bi-directional XLR bus, which is why a Tech 2 with the latest firmware is recommended in conjunction with the GM Service manuals.
It may not have been meant to read as such, but to clarify, as far as connecting any electronic device under power, I would not recommend it. Damage to the scan device and vehicle may occur. With the vehicle shut down, connect a scanner, then activate the ACC power.

My earlier observation as you mention was wrong. As you say The OBDII or III scans only for engine codes. I did in fact know this to be the case but I think maybe old age is taking a toll.

.
Where I need some help: I would like to make performance mods to my 06 XLR (mild) once I have sorted existing know problems which I have been working on. Typically these can be (a) more air intake via an improved system, (b) cooler running engine by coolant system mods, (c) improved exhaust flow, (d) performance prom chip or reprogram module,
Cadillac XLR Performance Chips and or (e) hotter ignition. The later which I will leave alone.
These observations having been made I am a bit afraid of screwing up Goldie knowing how complicated these vehicle are and can often be a bit tempermental. I see on the site that many have used The Corsa Exhaust. Is it that much of an improvement over the stock stainless set up? If so by how much? I also see that some have used the Volant Air Intake System. ( I see from one member this caused theirs to 'set a code'). The factory one does look very 'restrictive of air flow' to me. How much would this possibly increase performance?

I am not into spending money that will not yield results.
Over the past month I have been doing basic heretofore neglected maintenance. New brakes and rotors, serviced calipers and new brake hardware. Painted the calipers with high temp gold and clear. Trans fluid filter and flush. Diff drain and fluid replacement w. G.M. Posi Fluid in it. Both full synthetic. Fixed an oil leak (minescule at the timing chain cover - Real pain in the bu--). Replaced some broken under vehicle panels from prior owners scraping speed bumps, etc. I also made my own tunnel reinforcement plate, heat insulated which does indeed work and eliminated the heat transfer into the passenger compartment console area completely. Rotated and ballanced all tires and reset TPMS and TC due to battery having been disconnected for awhile. This Fall I will again put it back up on jack stands and do the major body and paint work to the rocker panels and front bumper surround. Once done I would like to effect 'mild' performance mods. In this regard, I would appreciate your thoughts and input.
My objective is to keep the vehicle as pristine as possible while staying as original as possible but yet improve performance.
With your expertise, I would really appreciate your and others suggestions as to what works and what doesn't, without creating other problems, Ex. It is my understanding that the system must be 'reflashed' if one ads the performance module that I reference above (Cadillac Performance, recommended by Carol Cadillac in Texas). What does this procedure entail and what are the pitfalls? Ex., I know how to make the engine run cooler (180* - 190*by cooling system mods (fan, thermostat, increased water flow, performance radiator). What I don't know is what would this do to the CPM / ECM in possibly messing them up?
If you can weigh in on these questions as well as other Members who have 'been there, done that', please do so.
All my best,
Charles
