My XLR/V(s)
2005 black raven
I have a 05 xlr and am looking to put some different rims on other than the stock 7 spoke rims. I would like to put the xlr-v rims on my car, will they fit? If not what have others used to dress up there xlr? Would like to put chrome rims on just looking for ideas. Thanks Duane

They will fit perfectly direct swap. I just put V wheels on mine over the winter and in my opinion looks way better with 19" than 18"s

I will not likely be able to get the photo posted here, but check my Avatar pic. They are Z-06 wheels or copies I am told. Mine are 18" and 19" are also available. I highly recommend Chrome over polished Aluminium with Clear Coat. If you google XLR, there is an endless amount of wheel choices.

If you go with the V wheels you need to buy new tires too. I have the same wheels as boilermaker, great looking wheel, exact stock size.
LA Wheel may have both in stock, and is a great vendor.

Take a look at the XLR/XLRV wheel gallery. There you will find excellent examples of different types of wheels individuals have used.:blinzel:

Beware of wheel dealers, LA Wheel included, taking non chrome wheels and marketing them as OEM chrome wheels. They are OEM XLR-V wheels but were not chrome when they left the factory. I purchase a set from LA Wheel sold as new take offs. When I got them it was obvious they were not new and the chrome was of a much lesser quality. They had chromed over dirt on the inside of the wheel and also scars on the wheel. It was a major hassle returning them. Buyer beware. YMMV

As was mentioned stay away from shaddy companies. IMHO I would go with HRE. I have several sets since 1999 and the company is top notch in service and product. They have specs on file from various XLR owners and will work with you as-to what you want. You have a high end Cadillac so why not match that using a high end wheel. Granted, you can purchase off the shelf "brand X" wheel, but the wheels are often times "universal" or generic thus issues down the road.

Personally, I like the old style HRE wheels and you can find them on Ebay used. Look for Corvette HRE wheels. Ask for the sequence numbers on the back of the hub, and then call HRE for the details. Once you get the okay from HRE then they can fit the wheel to match your XLR. I had my set re-tweaked to my XLR and I can't be more happier! Check my thread for specs used. The best combo are the 19/20 sizes if not 18/19. The prices range from $1500 to $3,000 (that's half the price new). Try to purchase the best looking set with least about of damage, because replacements range from $200-250 depending upon the lip sizes and if it's the inner or outer barrel. If the center piece is damaged....RUN!

You can also buy used Iforge wheels too, but using the same caution as mentioned above. Most of my friend have HRE wheels. If you check other exotic forums it's mostly HRE with some using Iforge with little or none using "universal" off the shelf wheels. Now back to XLR talk.

Option "B" is to use Corvette wheels. Check the Corvette forums for they are on sale all of the time, but make sure of the off set. The same holds true for our XLRV wheels. Maybe somebody here has a set they might want to sale? Either way, it's a win-win for the OEM 18" are very, very skinny (235) and the XLRV wheels are wider and taller (19" 245 or 255?). The Corvette's are staggered and come in different styles.

You'll find the spec on the same page. As I stated call HRE and they will help you. Ask for Nick. Also, there is a set on Ebay (I think it's over now?) that is a 19/20 combo, but two of the inners needs replacing.

Stock XLR-V wheels are 19X8.5 compared to XLR at 18X8 both with a 61mm offset. I very much prefer a non-staggered fit that allows for tire rotation and something that keeps things inside the fender. I also prefer chrome, which eliminates some makers.

Here is a offset calculator with Corvette wheel sizes. Put in your starting wheel size from above and the size wheel you are considering and the calculator will show how much the wheel lips move. Don't forget to take the tire size into consideration. A 255 tire is about 1.5" wider than a 8.5 wheel, of course split evenly inside and out. Using these few tools you can determine how far out the new wheel/tire combination will end up and if there will be a problem with inner clearance. Don't cut things too close on the inside as there is sidewall flex and suspension travel to consider.

Corvette Wheel Offset Calculator • Corvette Central

Just for grins before you get started reach over your rear tire and stick your finger between the tire and the fender liner to get a feeling just how close things are.
