Bowling green puts Mobil 1 on both the Corvette and the XLR and that is good enough reason to use it for me.
Jim
And if for
no other reason, that would be good enough!
The biggest reason that GM put Mobile One in the XLR and puts it in the Corvettes is mileage. The reduced friction level allows for better fuel mileage which boosts the EPA mileage ratings.
There are lots of other good reasons to use it other than mileage. Considering that lots of XLRs probably get an oil change dictated by the calendar rather than the odometer, it provides extra protection.
But the question
was "
is Mobil 1 oil any different than any other full synthetic motor oil?"
And the answer is that the production method used to produce Mobil One is more cost efficient for larger volume production and allows it to be sold at a reasonable price, generally averaging about $6.00 per quart.
There are other production methods and those producers say that their method produces a superior product and that product generally sells for more than Mobil One.
I have used Mobil One for many years, and currently use it not only in my XLR, but in my Chevrolet Tahoe as well as my Chevrolet Pickup. In fact, I have been using in my pickup for over 20 years!
The internet provides an easy method for research, as opposed to the methods I had to use when I first researched synthetics back in 1982. You will find some very technical information available, but for the most part it is very interesting!
