My GMPP Major Guard will expire this November and I would like to extend it again. My current dealer refuses to offer me the "customer" price and is not budging from the "retail" price ($700 - $1000 difference). Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any GM dealerships that might be a bit more competitive with their pricing? Can anyone suggest a reputable "third party" warranty company that they have experience with? Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Based on several favorable reviews, and another consideration I'll get to, I chose the Costco Vehicle Protection plan:
Vehicle Protection Plans which is provided through Century Warranty Services. Like GMPP Majorguard, this is an "exclusion" plan which covers everything not expressly excluded.

My car was approaching the end of the factory warranty months, and at 23000 miles was below the GMPP price bump at 24k. However, I discovered that GMPP has a ugly restriction. If you purchase it before your car is 3 years old, you can get up to 6 years of coverage (from time of purchase). However, even a Cadillac with 364 days remaining on factory warranty is only eligible for 4 years of coverage.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Costco offers a no-interest payment plan of 10% down and 5% monthly payments for the next 18 months (which they will even charge to my 2% cash rebate credit card).

Your circumstances may differ, but for my 2008 (in costco's under 25k miles price bracket) I paid $3278 for 6 years, 60,000 miles, $100 deductible. Plus $55 for my first year's Costco membership.

Thanks BoughtTheXLR for your reply. Have you entered a claim using your Costco warranty as yet? If so what are your comments on the ease of use, customer service, wait time for approval and overall process.

GMPP

I bought my first GMPP plan from Fitchner Chevrolet in Montana and renewed it through them. They were the cheapest I could find. I also bought a GMPP for my EXT from them. And I have used the warranty on both cars with out a hassle including rental car. I cannot speak for the Costo Insurance as I have no experience with it, but know from bad experiences with other 3rd party insurance on my Corvette be wary. Make sure your dealer will honor all the provisions of it.

Mistaken Identity

Methinks you have me confused w/ BoughtTheXLR , who posted the excellent Costco description that I LIKEd. I also opted for the Costco policy, but [KNOCK WOOD!!!] haven't had cause to test out their customer service, wait time, etc.

They're good pre-sales; I'm hoping they're as good when it matters. FWIW

Tim

BTW, how's your rebuilt engine doing?

Methinks you are right, error has been corrected. :o

As for the rebuilt engine goes it has been running like a top. I have put about 6k miles on it so far, and have had 2 oil changes at 2.5k intervals at the cost and behest of the dealership. As you stated above "knock on wood" thus far she is running great.

Today I renewed my GMPP Major Guard warranty for a new 36/36000 agreement with a $50.00 deductible. I purchased it through the same dealership that I have trusted to repair my car in the past. Since the mishap with my engine and my customer loyalty they gave me a great discount of 35% off of the retail price of $3765.00.
