Decided it was too nice a day to sit around the house. Changed out my rear bearing assemblies yesterday and hadn't done a proper roadtest since getting a 4-wheel alignment this morning. So the next thing I know, I'm in Effingham. I got to MAM around 3PM and waited for any XLRs to show up.None did. As the Corvettes lined up for the fun run, I positioned myself so I could see any XLR in the line up that I may have missed. NOT. So I jumped in the line 2-3 cars from the rear. (in case an XLR joined in late) and lo and behold...
As we came around a curve I was commenting on all the vette tail lights & HEY there is an XLR! Totally destinctive tail lights in a sea of round Vette lights. A few seconds later the XLR owner saw us (we were about a dozen cars back behind him & the cops) so his arm shot up in greeting. Next thing we know the traffic is dead stopped so guess who comes running back but Gizmo, asking the police if I could drive up and join him, which we did.
Fun Run was pretty cool. Lots of cornfields. Police escort was nice and there was plenty of parking downtown close to the square.
Anyway ended up downtown in overflow parking at a bank near the Weiner Mobile. That is when I forced Steve & Gizmo go get their photo taken.
And I usually avoid cameras. It was great to meet you and Steve.
Anyway we wandered around the down town square a bit, couldn't find a restaurant with any seating so ate something on a bun. The downtown thing is quite a snooze fest
Yeah, downtown Effingham was nothing like Bowling Green.
OBTW, I scouted out the parking situation and we're moved to the end of the pavement from Gate 4 and to the left. There may be one other club parked over there, every one else is where we were last year which is to the right of that road starting where we were last year and spreading out back toward where they have us this time. Our spot is high and dry, whereas, a couple others looked like lake Volvo
.
Any one coming in on I-70 East, add an extra half hour to your estimated drive time for construction. Vandalia is the worst, with 12 miles of one lane construction zone. As soon as P.J. gets off work, we'll be on our way. See everyone tomorrow nite.
