My XLR/V(s)
2005 Crimson Pearl XLR
I was cleaning up my office today and producing a stack of magazines, catalogs and brochures to be recycled. I came across a 2009 Consumer Reports Buying Guide. There was a section about automobiles where they give you a brief synopsis of each of the automobiles. Here it is, quoted verbatim from the synopsis about the XLR.

The XLR is based on the Corvette, but uses the smooth Northstar V8 and a six-speed automatic. It is quick and elegant, but not sporty. The more powerful XLR-V uses a supercharged V8. The interior is plush and inviting for its two occupants, and the roomy trunk can hold two golf bags when the hardtop roof is stowed.

This from a group of people that analyze toothbrushes and coffeemakers! :(

Hey, I actually figured out how to put my golf clubs in my trunk with the top down ;)

I only ever use by 'big' driver and occasionally my 3 'wood' so I stripped out all the extra stuff I carry that makes the bag fat and heavy: way too many balls, a travel cap for the bag, accumulated stuff etc-etc, took out my extra putter, ball retreiver, 1 & 5 wood. I remove my big driver and 3 wood and put them in seperatly on top of the bag after it stowed (they are too long when in the bag) and Voila: I get to go to my Thursdiy night league in my XLR! :blinzel:

My bag won't fit with the top down without ANY clubs in it. I usually put the golf bag in the passenger seat, then it's top down to the course...

Ditto!

Hey guys, it won't kill your masculinity to purchase a slightly smaller golf bag, :chuckle then you won't have to have a bag and its contents threatening to damage the interior of your XLR!
<O:p</O:p

But we NEED everything that's in those big golf bags... you know, in case of inclement weather during league, more golf balls, all the clubs known to man, etc., etc., etc.... :D:D:D

I particularly enjoyed the part about "It is quick and elegant, but not sporty".

Makes one wonder just how Consumer Reports defines sporty.

That was the Allante's one advantage over the XLR!

From a former '93 Allante owner...

I took my "not sporty" XLR out for a long, top down joy ride today. No golf clubs or other baggage, just me! So sweet.

Reminded me why I ignore Consumer Reports.

You guys should follow "Little Woman's" lead ..... head out to the golf course .... head for the club house and skip the game .... much more fun and you don't have to worry about the clubs.

More on CR

A couple of years ago they evaluated my CTS and took exception to the configurable buttons on the steering wheel. I wrote them a letter and told them if they had bought the car at a dealership, the salesperson would have explained the buttons or they should read the owner's manual, the get started quick summary or listen to the CD. They evaluated it as if it was a rental, put the keys in and drive. Plus, you read their reviews, the foreign car is a best buy and the domestic isn't, but the evaluations are identical.

CR

I bet if one would do the research, they probably find that Consumer`s Report recommended obama for president. Donkeys.

Consumers Reports have their hand out for the highest bidder. They are just like Top Gear, paid to advertise and to entertain and provide drama not to subjectively evaluate products based upon their real value.

I read a review for Corvette a few years back. They rated it "average" for rusting!!! :dunno:

I knew there was a reason I didn't play golf (besides a savage slice and no patience) - trunk space! Top stowed = ever growing detailing kit (clay bar and bug remover just added plus whatever Coach sees in Cubby's collection that we must have:cool:), two collapsible chairs and the cooler! Always ready to show, go or just sit and watch:love:

Hi to All,
I knew going in about lack of room for my bag so, first order of business was to dump the Tour bag and get a Sunday bag. And the other golfer has to hold the bag between their knees.
What I really would like to know after reading the exploits of all you folks traveling to these get togethers is; how/what do you pack so as to be able to travel/cruise to far flung destinations with the sparse room in the trunk with the top down. Have you all come accross a piece of luggage that fits snugly in the avaiable space or what? Maybe you use old hiking tricks like cutting the handle off you toothbrush etc.

I doubt many people want to make a trip to "far flung destination" with the top down. Its a cadillac after all, quiet, comfortable etc.. I figure you travel with the top up and unload, then the top stays down for a while.

Thanx for the input Airmike, didn't mean to imply traveling long distance with top down. I actually meant travel the long distance with top up and then short scenic trips that do not necessarily retrace the route. But I do get the idea. Thanx again.

they don`t know....

I take far flung road trips during the summer, 1700-2000 miles. Top is always down unless I find rain. I`m single, have a leather bag and a credit card. Top, I don`t need no stinkin` top, just an open road to kill bugs.
