Help! Folding top problem?

Look for info on here on checking sensor counts with the Tech II. Ours was doing the same thing as rnrt99; we kept doing relearns which would fix it. Then the need to do relearns started occurring more frequently until we finally figured out the tonneau sensor needed replacing. The sensor count info clued us in. No problems since we replaced that sensor.

Thanks for advice.
In my shop manual it says before relearning with the Tech2 there is a manual alignment procedure which looks a little messy.

Do you perform this everytime before relearning?

We just did the Tech II. Not touching manual adjustments unless all else fails, because as you said it’s messy and you can REALLY foul things up doing that. Even our XLR tech stays away from manual adjustments if at all possible.

Unless you jam the top mechanism somehow, the top alignment will usually stay in alignment. All I do is to a top relearn.

HI Sam.

The Tech 2 is a great tool and could be economical, however you must be confortable in using a such power full tool.

According to your says the retractable roof does not complete its sequence and an additional handling has to be made to get it work, the buzzer will not work because all sequences are not completed.
Otherwise the system seems working good, check the level of the oil pump if it is low that could means leaking hydraulic tubes, check for oil stain or oil in the lower compartment of the pump.
Check for the switches and sensors that guide the system for its operations and sequences, your workshop manual indicate their location and function.

Having your car at a GM dealer, would be fine to find the specific problem and he has the parts to fix your XLR and he will also update the retractable roof data of your XLR, as since 2004 many datas were change, if you manage to find the problem and the fix, it will still be wise to visit a fine GM dealer.

The retractable roof system is a German made system very similar to the Mercedes BMW Volkswagen and many other makes, if you can find a GM dealer these other dealers could be of some help.

Hi Rexster.

Absolutely correct, the XLR is build in the USA ……….However the German made concept join venture Porche, Mercedes and Cadillac with an european supplier is the reality .

Please visit the wikipedia for the car retractable roof,it is well explain.

There is other join ventures for other components of our XLR, the gearbox, the headlights, the tail lights and even the tires.

This week in searching for engine ground cables on my XLR I found on the LH side on chassis rail in line with the front wheel a sticker with white small letters '' made in canada '' I could not believe my eyes.

The reason why I have mention ''German made'' is, it looks that CadillacSam is from Germany.

If you took time to read the link I posted, that's exactly what you're saying. CTS is a German company that built a factory IN Bowling Green. Technically, it was a USA made, German owned/designed endeavor.

Did it. Thanks everybody.
The menu navigation is sometimes unreproducible, but ok.
I just managed it and only relearned the closed position - everything working fine.
Regarding the counts: I only saw one counter saying 95.

Thinking of buy one myself, is is a good choice to take the Chinese version?

I forget the name of the newer system, but as I remember, it's internet based and requires a pretty hefty subscription fee. I paid about 350$ for the kit including the huge storage case. Don't remember what store I bought it from, but pretty easy to find these things.
