So, I tried to open my glove box (which was unlocked), the latch swings out and there's a small noise but the glove box stays shut. I pull a bit harder and the latch handle breaks into 4 pieces, the lock falls to the floor, and the glove box stays shut.

Does anyone have a clue about how to open it now? I've tried removing the two screws at the bottom, but they obviously aren't the secret. If someone could post a picture of the latch when the box is open, that might help me find the right place to prod it with a screwdriver.

you can try the c6 forum there is more of this problem with the corvette, hope this helps. AL:)

Thanks! I never thought to look for a Corvette solution, and pretty quickly found a youtube clip which shows how to move the lock cylinder to a new latch, and at the end shows how to open the latchless box. Worked great! Corvette C6 Glove compartment fix - YouTube

Photo of broken latch & part #

The plastic broke on mine. You can see it in the picture. Several days earlier I had found a piece of broken plastic on the carpet mat and couldn't figure out where it had come from. Now I knew when I went to open the glovebox. Dealership told me that there is a small hole on the metal link. Put a small phillips screwdriver through it and pull out (if I remember right). The glovebox will open. While waiting for the replacement part, I put a large paper clip through the hole which then dangled down when the glovebox door was shut. I then put a small screwdriver through the paperclip and pulled down on it whenever I wanted to open the glovebox. Part # 25785769 titled handle 10.268N (don't know if this is a GM or dealer description). $38.83 the dealership was apologetic that the CPO warranty no longer covered it under the NEW GM so they installed it with no labor charge. latch.jpg

Glove compartment latch - a general problem??

Hi all,

I replaced my latch just 6 months ago, and now the plastic is broken again. And this time it simply broke by itself. I think the spring is too strong for the structure.

Any good ideas or experience??
