My XLR/V(s)
2004 XLR 2008 DTS 2006 STS Performance 2002 STS
getting a b3971 code on my tech2 and top is stopping midway in the process,
always at the same spot, closing or opening, does anyone know which sensor this is?
all help is needed since I don't have any dealers to ask here in Sweden
thanks

That is the folding top position sensor, ie the sensor (potentiometer) which tells the module where in its cycle the roof is. It is mounted in the hinge of the mechanism, driver's side. See workshop manual, item 11, page 8-627. The two other similar sensors are the front and rear tonneau sensors.

Do you have the workshop manual? Assuming not, the code sets if the module sees less than 12 counts or more than 244 counts (ie under 0.25v or more then 4.75v (range is 0-5v)). Usual cause in potentiometers of this type is noise, caused by lack of use. Try removing the sensor and turning it back and forwards many times by hand. This might be enough to clean it up (internally) otherwise you can fit a new one. There are other possibilities in the wiring loom, the sensor is a likely starting point.

Then you can use your Tech 2 to reprogram the roof.

wow thank you, that was the info I needed, NO I dont have
the service manual, would really love to have one though!
Hopefully there is a way to get one online.
Im trying to find a exploded view of the roof and sensors
so I can try to get that sensor to work again or get the part#
to order a new one, Really love the car otherwise!

I was lucky to find a copy of the complete service manual (all four books) on ebay. Having a copy of the manual does help. Here is copy of page of 8-627.
