I am aware that on the driver's side rear bumper there is a square that has to be removed to access the key hole.
My concern is that taking this out could damage or scratch the paint. Does any one know the best way to do this, please?
What would be the best tool, etc., to use.

Small screwdriver from underside of the plug and it will pop out easily. BTDT

be more concerned with opening the trunk. if your struts are not in great shape the trunk lid can dip at the rear, get hung up on the 1/4 pane land crack it. if the rubber stoppers are missing on the trunk or not aligned the trunk will not raise any when you unlock it with the bumper key .best to have someone turn the key while you with two hands grasp the trunk on the underside lip and as you lift pull the trunk to the rear. if you just try and lift it straight up it can break the corners. its and easy operation if you just sort of lean back while lifting it up.
