Met a nice gentleman at a car show, is selling his XLR (told me he is 75 years old) Look's like a nice car, could use some interior cleaning and a proper polishing but I did not get on the ground to look closely due to my recent knee surgery), I told him I would post on this forum.

Looks like someone has changed the upper and lower grilles, as Sandy mentioned.

I remember from back in the 80's that some Cadillac dealers would perform minor modifications to the cars and sell them as special editions. Perhaps this is the case with this car.

This color blue is very attractive on XLRS, in my opinion.

Bulgari (spelled BVLGARI) is the name of the Italian company that designed the speedometer console. My guess is the gentleman is thinking that this means it's a special edition since it has the Bulgari speedometer console, but ALL XLR's have this.

The 2009 models don't, but all others do.

You're probably right about this issue. He may have not ever been in another XLR and doesn't realize that his is not unique.

Special, but not unique.

Interesting... didn't realize that about the 2009's. Did the Bulgari speedometer cluster not continue in the 2009? How much different does the 2009 versions look as compared to the previous years?

I remember reading somewhere that at that time '08' GM was trying to stop the bleeding. So they dropped the BVLGARI dash to save on cost.
The more and more I research parts for this car they turn out being reused design from the corvette. Just like the HUD "love the profile of the car for the Acc". I prefer the BVLGARI, those little things are what gives the car it's status. Expectually for sticker price.

All darn! I had noticed that to, here I thought I had a special edition too!! Lol

yes, he was under the impression that it was a special edition and I suggested it was on all the cars but was unsure as I am no 'expert' XLR source. That coupled with my interpretation of what he wrote lead to the incorrect spelling of that: sorry dudes! :blinzel:...

NO, no Bulgari. As suggested it was dropped likely due to cost cutting to save the car, but we know that did not happen.

Evidently, Bvlgari was brought on board to attract the European buyers while also introducing the watchmaker to the US consumer. They had an agreement from 1999 to the refresh after 2008 model year. Bvlgari also designed aspects of some of the Cadillac concept cars as well as the XLR keyfob. Most magazines made it sound like the divestiture was a mutually agreed decision to end the relationship prior to the model refresh in 2009. But something about that agreement isn't being told to the public. Hmmmm....
