HRE 543R: Testing clearances on 2007 XLR

After a nice time in the Bay Area I drove past Los Banos, CA where two XLR are housed. The place was closed so I only took one picture through the glass.

Both XLR/XLRV are for sale.

As we all know, once you've washed the car it's going to rain.

While briefly in Fresno, CA I had no choice, but to wash the XLR. The first winter rains wreaks havoc on your wheels. Good thing I had those HRE outer lips chromed. I carry all of the needed items inside the trunk; all wheel cleaner, spray and wax, and micro cloth.

After the wash I spotted several people eye balling the ride.:D

Okay, now it's onto the brakes an rotors using a fellow member's Z06 kit. I'm not 100% sure that I won't remove the "Corvette" logo and opt for XLR.:dunno:

I attended the SEMA 2013 show in Las Vegas this week and it was a blast! The XLR drove flawlessly during the entire trip and P-Zero run flats was quiet as a mouse as I traveled smoothly down I-15.:blinzel: Total round trip was just under 700 miles.

Cruising the "strip."

I got my ZO6 calipers and rotors today.:) They were sitting there all 140 pounds. I was late getting back from out of town and nobody dared tired to snatch them up. :squint: I hope to have them installed sometime this month. I would like to thank RichardYoo for letting me purchase the kit.:blinzel:

Well, I'm on the phone with D3 trying to order the Hotchkis front and rear adjustable sway bar. The cost is $595, but it's on back order.:( Oh well, looks like I may have to wait, but I'm okay with it. Like my other cars with massive rear wheels the back end likes to wander in every groove in the road and the XLR is no different. I hope to have the brakes and sway bars installed at the same time, but it the wait is too long I'll opt for the C6 brake install.

Currently, I'm surfing the net looking for cars with big brakes trying to find a good color. I could go for the red calipers behind the black powder coated HRE centers:confused: or opt for yellow or black.:dunno: I got a link to a company that powder coats so I might use a custom badging too.

You could PM Cadillac Tech as well... he has had calipers powder coated for many forum members at a fairly decent price, I believe.

Thanks. After looking at several colors I decided to go with a Black with the "Cadillac" name in place of the "Corvette" name. Too many irons in the fire right now, but I hope to get the C6 calipers and rotors installed in Dec or some time in Jan 2014 I hope.

I had a good time at SEMA and I racked up several hundreds of miles on the P-Zero run flats. I did get a souvenir. A Cadillac plate. They only had a two or three options and I got this one. I received a lot of looks while traveling to and from Sin City.:D

The XLR is parked now and on a "Battery Tender." I'll bring it out again maybe this week if the weather is nice. You gotta love CA.

Used to prevent accidents by owner or from shop mechanics. The "sleeve" extend out and away from the wheel.

Due to to the extremely warm weather here in CA I've been driving the XLR. :) I still haven't tweaked the C6 brakes, but maybe some time this year (I hope:chuckle). I did decide upon what powder coating color. I'm going with Black with the Cadillac logo.

Is anyone else not seeing the pics?

I came aross some old pictures of the HRE that I bought back in 2007. Two of the outer lips were bent and in serious need of repair. Only one of the four wheels had a tire on them which was a 285/30/20. Good thing that I stuck to my guns and kept the wheels despite me not owning a XLR at the time.

The HRE wheels were at the Salvage yard back in 2005 or so. At the time Cypress Salvage yard wanted $1,200 or so buck for them. I kept inquiring over several months. I decided to go "chrome" because it's a pain to polish every 6-months.
