My XLR/V(s)
2005 Siver base XLR
2005 XLR, top worked when I got it in late December but has not worked since.
- The top switch on the console does not do anything unless my Tech 2 is connected.
- If the Tech 2 is connected the front tonneau cover will come only about 3/4 of the way up and that is all that happens when the cabin top button is pushed.
- The trunk opens with the cabin button, fob, and the trunk button...it closes normally with the button on the trunk.
- The Tech 2 has not been much help maybe because I am not using it correctly but I think that i am.
- Top Hydraulics suggested that I need a new pump but again the trunk opens and closes just fine.
- Because the top switch in the cabin does not do anything unless my Tech 2 is connected I thought maybe it was the Folding Top Module but not sure.
- I have replaced the potentiometer on the front tonneau cover but nothing changed.
- No messages on the DIC.
- I don't want to just start throwing $800 parts at this problem so any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Don

Re-index the windows and if that does not solve the problem do a re-learn with the tech2, you stated that you had your tech2 hooked up but didn't say what you did with it.
Good luck, let us know what you find out.

I have re-indexed the windows several times and also did a re-learn with my Tech 2 but no joy. The Tech 2 just says "in progress" but never completes.
When you get right down to it the basic problem is that the cylinder that raises the front tonneau cover is simply not moving far enough thus the center cover does not go up far enough to let the side wings go down. I really don't think it is a problem with the cylinder because if it was bad I think that it would be leaking and it is not. It almost seems like there is not enough hydraulic fluid getting to the cylinder to move it further. The fluid canister is showing the fluid right at the minimum so I think that I will add some and see if that makes a difference.

Okay, I will answer my own answer. I filled the fluid up to the maximum and tried the re-lean a couple of times which raised the front tonneau cover about 3/4 up as it has been in the past. Then I raised and lowered the trunk three times and then checked my fluid level and it was down to halfway between min and max. I checked all of the cylinders (except the one in the headliner) and did not find any leaks. After some more searching I did find some fluid in the bottom of the pump well. Not a lot but enough to get my fingers wet and the drain tube was definitely wet and ready to drip. I don't know if this is the cause of all of my problems but it has to be fixed anyway. What could be leaking in the pump well?
