So what is the best tire to go with? Run flats or ??? And what size do most of you run on the xlr. Also is the Volant really worth putting on this car?

For me at this point in time I am sticking with the OEM Michelin ZP tires, just for peace of mind. The Volant Intake is a bit pricey IMHO, I am currently trying to make my own custom intake using a 2003 Corvette K&N intake w/dual cone filters, 2002 Corvette "Breathless" intake and various parts from Spectre Performance. All in all it wil cost me about $175.00 - $225.00 when all is said and done.

If it were mine, I'd stay with the Michelin run flats. these tires were designed for the XLR and do well if you keep them rotated about every 6,000 miles.

I'm with Bruce on this. After I bought my '06, we took a trip to Ashevile, NC with some XLR & Corvette friends. Somewhere along the trip, my right rear tire took a 'hit' and developed a bulge in the side wall. I never lost tire pressure, but was still concerned. We made the trip home back to Chicago on it, checking it at every stop, but it never failed. The car only had 14,000 miles after that trip, but I replaced all four with new Pirelli OEM run flats and have never regretted it.

There may be non-run flats that will give a better ride, but I think the V already gives me a great ride and the run flats are there for a hazard that may come up and I can make it to safety, instead of having to deal with a flat tire!!:)
