I was changing the pads and rotors on my XLR the other day and noticed unusual tire wear on the front tires. The inside edges of the tires were almost completely worn and the outside still had a usable amount of tread left. Is this something that is normal with an XLR or is there an alignment issue that needs to be fixed like most other cars?

By the way, how do some of you get the front end of your X's jacked up off the groung. I could barely get my jack under the car due to it's low ride height.

I would say you definately have an alignment issue.

I also use the race ramps to get the front end high enough.

To get my jack under the car (to pull off my wheels - or change my oil), I drive up the front tires onto a small 12x12 piece of 2x6 wood. This puts the front end up just high enough to get my jack under the front end.

Hope this helps. :rocker:

I have ramps, but obviously cant take the wheels off while on the ramp. I do like the idea of driving onto the block of wood. I will try to drive onto my ramps and see if I can get the jack to life the wheel off of the ramp so that I can pull the wheel off.

One of these days I hope to get a vehicle lift!! I think it would make a great addition to the shop.

Don't know what kind of jack you have, but I have no problem lifting mine off the race ramps to take the front wheels off. Do it all the time--I'mm a fanatic about having the back of my rims clean, so I do it constantly.:lol:

A lift would be nice, but I don't have the room.:(

You are correct on the wear on the front tires. My guess is alignment or ? my 07 has the same tire wear. I jusy bought it 3 mths ago and the tread looked fine but when they had it up on the hoist I noticed that strange wear almost down to the wire and only on the very edge of the tire. I have never seen any tire out of alignment just wear down the edge. My guess s it is the emt run flats are so littlr flex in the side wall that any alignment problem shows up on the edge of the tire. probably need to rotate every 3k.
Any one else have any ideas/:dunno:

My 07 has 18000 miles and no noticeable tire wear. Haven't rotated at all. Thinking I may take it in and have them rotated in the Spring.
