I purchased a Die Cast Hot Wheels Silver XLR-V at a Swap Meet today. It is a GM Licensed Mattel© 2004 according to Box info.
This is likely the wrong venue, but If someone is looking for one, please contact me for more photos etc.

It is 8" long, Opening Doors, Hood and Trunk with great detail overall.

It is by Dropotaro and has deeply dished Chrome Wheels and fender flares, Chrome engine and trunk interior but otherwise true to OEM.
Black Interior.

Ive seen two versions that I like and the one you have is one of them. The other version is made by Dubs I believe, but it's none deep dish rear wheel, hard top up, and sports the base model grill. Either way both style are nice, but are costly on Ebay starting around $85-100 bucks!:squint:

Recently I was lucky enough to pick up the Norev die cast XLR with working top. Oddly I got it on eBay UK for about $20.00US.

Great. I would like to see photos of it as I have a friend in the UK who could watch for me.

I often wondered about your Crossfire, particularly the name as it was used by GM on their 1982 Corvette engine with Fuel Injection.
I would have thought it would be trademarked. I had both '82 and '96 Collector Editions.

I recently bought a die cast hot wheels Xlr from a guy in France. All in it cost me about $90

I was very fortunate to buy a red one By Mattel - Hot Wheels to match my 2008 last year for $20, boxed then, not now.
9-1/2" long, front wheels steer, hood opens Base Model.
Sellers wife was 'housecleaning' his collection!
Any die-cast I have seen are circa 2004.

The way Chrysler came up with the name was derived from the over head view of the car. I had a 1983 Camaro Z28 that had crossfire injection. Maybe GM could not trademark the word "Crossfire".

I bought these 2 Mattel 1:18th diecasts, they also make a Black one in 1:18th that I'm still in the hunt for.

I'm still looking for the little matchbox one to go with my larger diecast and my real lifesized one. Then i can say i have 3 generations of xlrs in my family

There were a couple of red ones on ebay and now there is one less :)

Is it unrealistic to even think about trying to swap out a mesh grill?

Grille Swap

I am very pleased with my mesh grilles. They were done by the previous owner and made by E&G Classics. A quality product

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I'm asking about the feasibility of changing to the mesh grill on the die-cast model to match the one Cadillac installed on my car at the factory.

The grill pops out real easy and it is plastic just held in with 3 little tabs, but find
ing material to fabricate a mesh looking grill would be the problem.

I am using mesh from an anti-splatter frying pan cover. I found one with very fine openings. The holes are directional and the big problem is getting an exact fit even with templates. I use a hole punch for the Caddy crest.

My grille does not seem to be plastic but it may be. It is a separate piece. I intend to just overlay it with the mesh. Project has been delayed a bit!

Thanks for your response. I will post a photo of the finished product.

I used the mesh from a fine anti-grease spatter grille for a frying pan. Tricky to cut out. Punch the hole first! I just overlaid the original.

Yep I was lucky enough to get this one from hot wheels. A guy from the xlr net had this and I contacted him. He ended up being very close to me 25 miles away or less. So I met him and he gave me this red one

which I very close to mine. He also gave me his other xlr stuff like the xlr book signed by some of the builders, a couple brochures but not the year mine was, some other miscellaneous things. But the one thing that I’ve been looking for and finally found last yr was this 1:64th scale red playerz xlr. My nephew got it for me on eBay.

the guy also gave me a Cadillac xlr pen (not pictured) but in my display area. Also I have a drawer that I have other xlr memorabilia in. I think I need a bigger display cabinet. I have my awards/plaques and pictures in the garage area.
