I take great pride in caring for my 53,000 mile 2006 XLR-V and most people would describe it as immaculate - except, that is, for a spot on the driver’s seat where the dye had completely worn off.
So I decided to remedy that by ordering Shale leather dye from Andy at the Seat Doctors (www.seatdoctors.com). As his web site says, Andy provides auto interior first aid.
The bottle he sent me had detailed instructions printed on it but here they are in a nutshell.
First, ensure the area to be dyed is throughly cleaned. I used alcohol wipes for this.
I recommend using a one inch wide foam brush to apply the dye.
Pour a small amount into the bottom of a paper or plastic cup and soak it up with the foam.
Dab a thin coat of dye where needed using the flat side of the brush.
If an additional application is needed, wait at least 20 minutes, preferably longer.
Wait 48 hours for the dye to completely cure then buff with a microfiber cloth.
Your leather should now look new again.
If you have wrinkles in your leather, you can improve the appearance of those too. See my before and after pictures below.
