My XLR/V(s)
Shopping
John (JK) Woodrow here. I’m deep into the process of turning my 2000 Porsche Boxster S into an XLR.
I’ve had and loved the Boxster for almost 10 years. It’s a great car but it’s time for a new toy. The XLR caught my eye when introduced but were beyond my toy price range until recently. Like most high end cars, they depreciate briskly. I have my eye on a low mileage 08’ at the moment.
Over the years, I’ve had and enjoyed a ton of fun cars. Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, even a couple of Alantes. I’m excited to get an XLR. My only concern is how hard will it be to get in and out of? Just turned 71 and could loose a few pounds..
I’ll appreciate any comments.
Thanks, and I’m happy to be a member of this group!

Yep, the XLR is low. I'm 77 and drop down when getting in. But, they are a lot easier to get in and out than a Corvette. More difficult to get out of the XLR than getting in.

jkwoodrow,
The XLR is a lot easier to get in and out of than a Vette. They ride a bit more smoothly too, but they are not intended to be as sporty as the Vette, but more luxurious.
We have a 2002 Vette and the 2005 XLR, my wife is 72 and does not have any issues getting in and out of either.
she did make a comment the other week while we were in the XLR "this really rides nice and is comfortable", which shocked me, as she never wants to drive it !
Biggest thing to think about with the XLR is if something happens, GM makes next to no parts for it anymore (other than chassis parts, because is basically a C6). You are at the mercy of the used market, and they know that.
Best of luck with your decision!
