I cant believe no one is discussing this. Did you see where you can even get the C5R engine. Its not cheap but for some car enthusist that like speed this has it all.

Why buy it?

Lets assume you have a standard XLR, If you put that kind of money into one of these kits you now have a highly modified car. Can you get warranty service? In my younger days I put a ton of mods and money into a Camaro and really took a bath in sales..Years later my old Camaro isn't worth much but my friends stock 67 is worth much more.

I would take the money, trade in the standard for a good used XLR V or a new CTS coupe V or a Corvette.

I was quite surprized that this Company even offered this package. Someone that would do this no doubt money is not a problem and they want something no one else has. I would love to have one like this because the XLR is so awsome looking and this kind of power would be unbelievable. However, your point is well taken. You never get back what you put in after market extras. But it sure is fun for the time you own it.

I've always been more of a purest when it comes to cars... I like to keep them as original as possible. Granted, I did put a chrome grille and wheels on my XLR... but they ARE factory XLR parts.

I could only imagine what a supercharged 427 or 484 would do in a XLR!! I also thought the six speed manual conversion option was interesting.

Last I heard, Mallett went out of business several year ago when the bank Padlocked their doors and several car owners could not get their cars back without going to the court to get a release. The phone number listed in the link no longer works. I have modded our vet but really don't want to change the XLR. I feel it's value is greater left stock.
