Can someone clear this up for me: I thought all 2004 & 2005's had the antenna wart on the trunk lid? I met a fellow today (see 'Do you see XLR's' posting) with a 2004 that is supposed to be factory stock and it did not have the antenna thing on the trunk. Did all cars have them on only ones with Onstar or Nav? I thought they all came with Onstar & Nav.

The wart XM antenna with accompanying satellite receiver was the only option on the '04/'05's. The cars that did come with the satellite receivers installed allowed the owners to choose whether or not they wanted the fugly antenna to be mounted (which requires drilling through the rear deck lid.) The antenna and accompanying hardware was supplied in a box in the trunk.

For those interested in installing a less conspicuous antenna (and have the satellite receiver) I posted a DIY install procedure several years ago: https://www.xlr-net.com/forums/cadi...-ez-04-05-model-years.html?highlight=wartless

You are correct; all came with OnStar and Navigation.

A little confused. So do you mean if you didn't choose to take the XM radio option as a new purchaser you could choose to not have the antenna mounted to the trunk? I am no techno-geek: but do you not need an antenna for the satellite portion of the nav system?

The Navigation system has it's own dedicated GPS antenna under the dash pad at the base of the windshield.

The satellite receiver antenna receives signals from the 2 XM satellites (appropriately named Rock and Roll) and three Sirius satellites.

After purchasing mine I was cleaning the trunk and compartments and found said box. Opened and there was a wart painted, all instructions, gaskets, etc. to mount. Thank god the previous owner opted out. :D

Thanks CC. I was going to ask you how come you know so much but then I clicked on your biography....

My wife would beg to differ with you. . .

Has anyone tried installing the AM radio antenna fix kit inside the trunk instead of punching a hole in the rear deck lid?

The kit comes with easy-to-follow instructions for a clean, (hidden) installation of the AM antenna. No special tools required unless the wart was being installed with it.
