2006 XLR-V Black/Shale
Hi All - Time to part with my 07 XLR V in Xenon Blue. I think only 17 made in this color, Cashmire interior. 52,xxx miles. Everything is bone stock with the addition of a wind deflector. Always stored inside and covered. Located in Michigan. Asking $39,500.

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,
Color is very nice, and looks to be in very good shape and price is reasonable.
What is your reason for selling?
Have you had any major issues with it in the time you have owned it?
Wondering if the V models are any more prone to issues vs the Base models?

I am contemplating stepping up to a V model, as I really like the styling better (the extra HP does not hurt either).
My 2005 base has 53K miles, and has no issues, so if I sell that to step up to a V model, I am concerned about issues that could come up.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris - I bought it at Barrett Jackson in January 2020 and have put about 3000 miles on it in 4 years and 1200 of those were in one roadtrip. The only thing I have done to it is new Michelins two years ago. Been trouble free for me and no issues. Only selling it due to lack of use, have 5 other cars and 20 acres of homestead that seem to dominate my time...lol.

Since the V model has some unique parts & was built in lower quantities, those parts are harder to find. For example, the mesh grills, seat skins, shocks, and water pump are all hard to get. In my experience, the V is not inherently less reliable

Gary,
Thanks for your info, sounds like it has been a good one for you.
Seems like there are good XLR's and troublesome XLR's based on what I have looked at and read in this forum.
I have 4 vehicles myself, but always liked the V XLR's, just have to decide if I want to pursue one or not.
Wife would probably kill me! LOL.
Also, I am about 5 years from retirement, so do I want to add more debt in those years...I have to think about that too.

Have you had much interest in yours since you advertised it?
Is this forum the only place you have advertised?
I have worked in Michigan a few times, what city are you located?

MPRCTCL,
Thanks for your insite. Yes, parts for all these XLR's seem to be the challenge. So far, I have not had any issues with mine, and hopefully will stay that way. I just looked at and drove a 2006 V while i am working in MD this week. Drove very nice and was not "harsher ride" than my 2005 Base XLR.
That one had 22K miles, one owner, but had an error message on the dash on start up about "service the headlamps". They said it was something with the "auto turning function" of them. I was thinking, mine has 53K miles on and does not have that issue, why would this have that with only 22K miles? My guess is too, that nobody would be able to repair that either. Also, both Vanity mirror frames and mirrors were broken, which again surprised me for 22K miles and one owner.
Things I really have to consider if deciding to "step up to a V model". Maybe sometimes keeping what we have if it is good, is the best choice!

I am in Grand Blanc, just south of Flint. This is the second V I have had, not troubles with either one, knock on wood. I havent gone to autotrader or haggertys yet, this is the first place I started.

I am of the opinion that one yo have a V, you would never go back to a base. Drove a few base model before buying my first one, and didnt light my fire like the extra HP and sound did with the V. just my .02.

Gary,

Thanks for your honest replies!
I worked in Traverse City a few times, and also outside of Detroit.
I have family relatives in PawPaw.

If I had extra $$, I would be asking you for more info on the car!
Just saw the interior on yours is the Cashmere, which is nice combo with the Blue.
Trying to sell mine first would take time, and by that time, yours will be gone most likely, then I would have no XLR... :( LOL !

I have been thinking about selling my 67 Nova resto Mod I have owned for last 24 years (took 10 years to build).
Is very nice and different, could probably get good $$ for it, and would easily cover an XLR-V.
But I have all those years in building and owning the car, so as we know, hard to "let go" sometimes!
If my wife would agree to selling our C5, that would help, but so far, she is not agreeing :ROFLMAO:
My 57 Chevy Resto Mod was my first car since I was 15, and have it 45 years now, so won't be selling that anytime soon.

I'll keep an eye out on your ad, in case I decide to put mine up for sale in next week or two.

I hear you on the customs, I am customizing a 70 El Camino. Tough to let something you invested sweat into go for sure! Check it out if you get a chance:

Lets Get Dirty Garage

Yeah, I did see an ElCamino in background of your pics!
I will check out the site then, looks like longer videos and i am working today.
here is a pic of my buddy's 71 ElCamino, he has owned it like 40-45 years as well.
Pic of my 57 & Nova attached too.

2006 was the first year for the steerable headlamps. It’s possible too that at some point the headlamp was damaged and replaced with an older version. The visor mirror hinges suck, break easily, and cannot be repaired, so that isn’t a big surprise to me.

MPRCTCL,
Thanks for your reply info. Did not realize that 2006 was first year for the steerable headlamps, but makes sense now.
Seems like 2006 was the start of quite a few differences in these.
I did not check to see if GM even still makes the visor mirrors or assembles. Maybe same as a C6 Vette?

Theres kits to fix the visor. The headlight issue usually can just be cleared with a scanner. When they sit sometimes on start up the headlight sticks and sets a code. It can be ckeared ir may require a drop of oil on the pladtic bushing inside tge headlight. A little work but dable.

If any xkr increases in value sometimes in the future it will be a v. Used prices for v vs base at 4-6000$ premium for the v iid money well spent. All the xlrs should have been v with the option being a v plus with 75 more hp.

Mickey,
Thanks for additional information! Good to know about the visor kits.
If I still had access to my Home Equity Loan at the old interest rates (like 3-5%), I would be going for a V soon, but at 8-9% now on new loan now, that is steep!
The Blue one that Ghawk has for sale looks really nice and color combo is nice too.

Mikey,
Thanks for your info and insight. I will pass the info along about the headlights & visors
I will pass this along to the person that has the used one I looked at the other week. Maybe they can fix that stuff before they sell it.

I believe you are off a bit on used prices for Base vs the V's.
Seems like more of a $10K-20K difference based off all the used ones I see.
If it was only $4-6000 like you said, would not be bad, and would be able to "afford one" at this point.

Gary's V above looks like it is priced good for the miles and shape, and color combo, based on others I have seen and looked at.

Thanks,

Chris Y

Im not going by asking prices but more by actual selling prices. Comparing base and v ir rather hard but based on milegae and condition and final sales price for 06-07 im on the money. Now when it comes to cars like an 09 or cars with 10-20 thousand miles yes the vs bring much more. Just look at the selling prices on bring a trailer snd you can compare.A black v just sold locally for 28000 it was 06 with 55k miles . very nice car. I think the blue and burgandy seem to bring more than black or silver.. If it been a none v i think it would ave broght 22-23.

Mickey,

I will check out BaT more later. I get emails everyday as I have been a BaT member for like 5 years.
I do see quite a few V's come across there, as well as Base ones.
Yes, miles make a BIG difference in both, lower miles mean more $$

With my Base XLR having 53K, everything works well, and is in very good condition, I feel it is worth about $20-22K.
An equivalent V a couple years newer, I will check on the sold ones, but they still seem to bring close to $40K.

There is a '06 V (Infared) locally near me (is a small dealer), with 38K miles, and they are asking $42,500 for it. Seems a bit high?
Have yet to look at it or see what they would give me trade, but my guess is they would want to give me like 15$ trade, which is not enough.
Even if they would give me $20K trade and have me shell out $20K, that is still $40K.
Dealers not the best to work with on used cars, but trying to sell outright, then look for another one, and (biggest part) pay the taxes on the new purchase amount is the tough choice.

I will keep up with mine and see how things go in the future. Maybe will advertise on FaceBook, to see if I would get any interest.
By then, Gary's above will probably be gone :(

Thanks as always for your insight....

Well its a known fact collector cars are way down pretty much across the board and i think they will stay down for at leat the next year. Just like houses are starting to come down a bit. You make your money when you buy. Pay too much and its going to be a loss. Most base purchases are cash buy. When youget above 40,000$ theres fewer people that have that cash. If the do they are waiting till after the election to see if that 40 is still worth anything.. If you coukd id sell as high as i coukd and quickly and then sut it out for 6 months and then get a deal on one. That 09 on bring a trailer shoukd bring 60. One just like it a year ago brought 70 i dont think it wil break 50 . which woukd be a good buy but i figure the owner has a reserve.
