Help! starting this project

Starting this project

I for one would like to see pictures as this project continues and also the end result, but not this end result. Based on your posts, you two guys know more about tires and rims than Henry Ford or Goodyear and I mean that with all sincerity. I have been to the other side of putting the wrong tires on based on the suggestion of people I bought them from and tore up my inner liners (as mentioned before in other posts) I learned and fortunately because it was their decision to put the wider tires on, they not only put the right size on all fours, but bought and replaced the two rear inner liners at no cost to me.They give me free balancing anytime, clean my chrome rims inside and out, clean my inner liners when I buy new tires and listen to me when I tell them that I want 32 PSI, not 36 PSI which is a hard ride. You guys are probably way over our heads with this tire stuff and should PM each other to discuss this like gentleman. God knows a while back I had opinions that I tried to brow beat people with but have learned a valuable lesson. Everyone's opinion counts...........what you do with the information is up to you. Good luck with getting along a bit better. NOW.............let me turn my collar around, I have to clean the stained glass windows.:laugh: Thanks to you guys I've reached a milestone on this site with 1,000 posts.

Personally I would like to see the rest of the project, comments included Rockyroads. I appreciate Phrede comments, though they do tend to grate at times, (perhaps totally unintended?) I would like to get that info anyway. I just read a comment on a different post and thought-wow that was an awesome, and respectful comment from Phrede.

Please both of you continue on in a respectful manner for MY benefit because I don't know these things or have the same experiences!

update

finished the remodel of the house and went fullon the project last Friday. Today the r/f wheelhouse came off and the chassi has a little damage where the front clip turns to the rest of the chassi. The tow truck is coming this afternoon to take my baby to the frame shop. Was planning on this trip just to make sure all was okay. I will post the news when it is finished. The frame guy said it's moved up and back a little and does not see it as massive so fingers crossed and praying for the best/ Rocky

Wishing you luck and hoping for the best.

Mine didn't look too bad when I took it to the frame man either. But ended up replacing the front 13" of the right front frame rail at a cost of $452 just for the rail. The left one, on the other hand was able to be pulled and squared with no problems.

frame rail

the left front seems to be okay, there is a slight torque in the place where the hood latch is attached(pushed in about an inch) but they are going to try to straighten it out. Some worry about it breaking since it is aluminum. The left side shock tower is bent a little and that is the shock that was broken but no other suspension parts were bent. The right side frame damage was hidden behind the wheelhouse but the frame guy says he can pull it out. something also pushed the floor pan (drivers side ) up a little an punctured a 2 X 4 hole but seems repairable. Pulling the carpet and pad out to weld and waterproof. Right now it is with an electronics guy to check all the mods in the left front fender area it's a mess and now is a great time to deal with that since all is open. Friday it gets moved to the frame shop and hope to get news by Monday. On the bright side the RR fender and rear bumper cover are replaced and look good. Hope to be back in my hands end of next week to continue the front end ROCKY

electronics

okay didn't want to bring anything up but I can't seem to PM on this site anymore. Hopefully I can get a response without any drama. My body guy unplugged my ECM without disconnecting the battery and then to compound things he plugged in a used ECM that I had bought and the reversed the whole thing back to the way it was when I bought it. I knew that someone along the line had modified the wiring as a couple of wires were cut and twisted together but it started and ran fine. Now a locked ICON has appeared on the dash and the car will turn over but will not fire, I suspect a theft mode of some sort, not making a statement just an observation. Any one have a clue as to how I can clear this and make it fire again? No I am not trying to make this permanent just want it to run again so I can move it around during the repair process. Also seems to be a 50/50 call as whether The used ECM can be reprogramed. Any help will be appreciated Thanks:( ROCKY

Not positive, but I believe the ECM needs to be programmed to the car before it will operate correctly. That is most likely your problem. Send an email to Cadillac Tech, he will be able to tell you for sure.

quick update

the car survived the frame shop and came back straight and true. right now with a Cadillac tech getting all the electronics refreshed and reprogramed. friends at goodyear gave me a final judgment on tires and said stay stock as even a little extra width could cause wheelhouse conflict( they do not have a dog in this hunt ) Also said run flats are going to be hard to find and if going non run flats it might be wise to run same size front and rear for rotation and ease of repairs or on the road problems.

tires

I would agree with you on twenties front and rear and not run flats which are hard to find in twenties anyway. I have an extra matching tire that I put in the trunk just in case when going out of state, but doesn't leave much room for luggage.
I've taken four trips from Southern Cal. to Bowling Green twice, New Jersey & Florida with no problems without that spare...............just lucky at tires but unlucky with the opposite sex.
Chip Foose whose shop is about 8 miles from my front door, opens his gates between 12 & 1 to answer peoples questions and was over their last week to ask him about getting my daughters 67 El Camino "Overhauled" on TV. It's been a labor of love for 20 years and just needs about 20% more to have it finished, but never has the time or money. I have thrown some bucks at it and can tell she is embarrassed that I do this for her, so I backed off. He also agreed with no run flats and same size all around. I have his 20" deep dish speedsters and changes the whole cars stance & look.

Actually do get well soon Rocky but seriously don't rush getting back into things until your doc releases you! I know how bad you would love to get back to your baby! But pushing the limit you maybe pushing your healing time longer!

Hey Rocky...
Sorry to hear about the surgery, but glad you're feeling better. Just take it one day and a time, then it will be a week at the time, and before you know it, you'll be back to you're baby in no time. Take it from one who knows...

sorry about the mixup

well from what I can gleam Floyds car is at a wrecking yard somewhere in Florida. I have no idea how to track that down. Am starting my search for the new candidate for the wide body project which will include lambo doors. I realize that this goes against the restoration platform so the one I find has to be beyond that as far as condition. The big project with thw wide body is that the fenders are not fiberglass' Sorry about the mixup standby ROCKY:blinzel:

Rocky.........email Floyd and ask him for the Vin #, All wrecking yards are on a nationwide list of totaled vehicles, you just have to call one of your local wrecking yards, give them the Vin and ask them to do a car locating for you:blinzel:. Then you contact that yard and ask for their price delivered to you. But you better hurry before the birds pick it apart.
