top 5 "must do" upgrades/fixes for the XLR

Sway Bar

The sway bar comes coated gloss black from the factory so no need to worry about that and the bushings are also pretreated to avoid squeak. The clamp brackets are galvanized and there is no drilling necessary: easy enough for this girl to install :chuckle but we do have the aid of a drive on hoist at home .

Also, that is the Corsa exhaust in the photo, we had to do some custom bends to get them to dump into those exhaust tips that are actually bolted to the facia and not even attached to the exhaust pipes.........and yes I know it is dirty under there, :( I will do a full underside detailing in the spring.

PS: after I posted this I see it hot linked the Corsa system mentioned above, when you click that link it is NOT the correct system for your XLR
.....OK that is weird, when I posted the above 'retraction' the hot link disappeared...but b_pappy's list has some of those links too..........???

I had my powder coated when I bought it. It all depends if you want it noticeable or blend in<a href="http://s1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg620/topila/?action=view&current=9570E7AE-290A-4355-9A4E-665A9E6E3F26-6392-000006051F6AE15D.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg620/topila/9570E7AE-290A-4355-9A4E-665A9E6E3F26-6392-000006051F6AE15D.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" /></a>

thanks for the photos everyone!

I was thinking of having it powder coated red, but it doesn't look like it would be visible enough to warrant the effort.

I got a call back today from a local firm that can supply & install the Corsa and CAI, just are just confirming availability or parts.

Heres what I have done so far....
1) XLR V rear sway bar.
2) 6000K headlamps and fogs.
3) Chrome Z06 Corvette wheels.
4) E&G fine mesh chrome grilles.
5) OEM color matched front plate holder and engine cover.
6) Debadged
7) Spectre Performance Chrome CAI.
8) Painted brake calipers.
9) Drilled and slotted rotors
10) Goodridge stainless steel brake lines.

Things to do....
1) Powder coated brake calipers.
2) Switch out all bulbs to LED.
3) Corsa or XLR V exhaust.
4) Chrome roll bars (if possible)
5) XLR V front and rear fascias.

Sounds like you had a busy day yesterday! I highly recommend the CORSA system, we put them on everything we own. Great quality, easy bolt on, fabulous sound and made in America!

:patriot:RIGHT, MADE IN AMERICA:patriot:

Sounds like the sway bar might be a "must do" for the new base C7, which like our base XLR's comes with no rear sway bar. The reasoning I ran across from the engineering manager was that was to give a better ride.:confused::confused:

I asked at Bowling Green at the Corvette homecoming a couple of years ago why ours have no rear sway bar, & was told it was to save weight & distinguish it from the V.

None of these reasons make sense to me. I haven't noticed a harsher ride, worse gas mileage (from all that weight!), or that my base feels like a V since the V sway bar was put on it. I have noticed it handles A LOT better, & it's not a "better ride" to me with the back end loose. At least it's an easy add-on if they're going to leave it off!

The upgrades I want to do is ImageUploadedByTapatalk1379261257.245403.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1379261271.629281.jpg (now haven't done but liked the pics)
And either paint and shine up the XLR lettering (like grand daddy did) or powder coated calipers
Maybe either wind restricter or make a custom xlr-net tag frame.(advertising helps spread the word)
And maybe do a passenger side custom xlr floor mat.

The one's I have done so far are:

1) Custom Floor Mats
2) Chrome Wheels
3) Powder Coated Calipers
4) Chrome Grill

On my wish list would be:

Custom Hood and Trunk Liner

My christmas wish list if i can't get the the floor mats or calipers done, would be the hood and trunk liner. The liner would be #1 on my wish list. But the rest could wait i guess. The grill isn't to important for me as the floor mats, Powder Coated Calipers, and the trunk and hood liner is. I want to give my ride some class, but not too much "bling".

I would add the anti-sway bar.

Sounds like the previous owner really customized it. Now you have a ongoing project to bring it back to original. Would've loved to see the before and after pics.
The only thing I did was remove the "dealer badge" that the dealerships alway stick on the cars. What? R they paying you to advertise. That's what someone said to me that used to own a xlr.

I always have the dealer remove their sticker/plate before purchase. I tell them I will be happy to have a rear plate that has their name but that is all. Then I remove that. No need for free advertisment for the dealer.
