if the transponder in the trunk area fails, at least 20 have done it, you will be locked in the car, permanently. Solution, open the glove compartment, insert the fob in the big slot in the top back left, everything will unlock and the car can start. Advice, drive your XLR to the nearest GM dealer and leave it. My 2004 sat in the shop June to October while GM got around to building and testing new transponders. I bought a new Corvette.

Why not just pull on the manual door latch?

Thought that was only in the trunk. Wonderful, I have just exposed my level of techno savvy to millions! Had the XLR for 11 years and loved it.maddog

Manual door release is on the floor on left side of drivers seat. I know this has been said before, but for this car reading the owners manual front to back will save you a lot of grief and in this man’s case (see link to article), a tragedy. Corvettes have the same release lever.
