The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A whine or growl noise may be noticed from the power steering at cold start. This noise may be due to residual air in the power steering system. Foaming of the fluid may also be noted.

Recommendation/Instructions:
  1. With the vehicle at normal operating temperature, raise the front of the vehicle so the front wheels are suspended.
  2. Start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock 20 times.
  3. Allow the vehicle to sit overnight and retest. If the noise is still present, repeat the process 1 more time.

Note: Prior to performing the steps above, be sure to check the power steering fluid level. If the fluid is low, fill to the proper level and evaluate.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
