Subject: 2004-2005 Cadillac XLR Poor Or No GPS Reception

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms in the PI.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may state that the Navigation radio will not show the proper location of the vehicle. When performing diagnosis, you may notice that the Navigation radio will have poor or no GPS reception.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Remove the Navigation radio and inspect the routing and securing of the GPS coax cable. The GPS antenna comes with a extra long coax cable. The extra coax cable should be looped into a circle and attached to the center HVAC case by the back of the radio. If the extra coax cable is bundle up and secured in the middle, like a bow tie, it can reduce the GPS reception. Repair as needed.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
